Mele20 : Percolated coffee is a major no-no if you value your health. There have been numerous large studies done on this issue in Europe and drinkers of percolated coffee as opposed to drip cut years off their life span and end up with heart disease and dementia at a larger and faster rate.

Percolated coffee tastes terrible also IMO. Bunn sells a gadget for those in soft water areas to slow the flow as coffee made by drip with soft water will taste weaker than coffee made the same way but with hard water. Slowing the flow increases the taste. I didn't know Bunn had this item until I went to their site to get a picture for this thread. They must have started selling this recently. I'm going to order one. I don't mind if it takes a minute longer to make...it already is made so rapidly.
--
The first and foremost function of our jurors is to protect private citizens from a tyrannical and intrusive government...Jurors are the last line of defense for liberty.
gwkiser : No offense, timcuth, but I'd advise against any Melitta. We got one a little over a year ago. It wasn't the $25 model, as it has a grinder, etc on it. All the mechanical items still work fine, but the lid on the grinder side...plastic with a snap top to keep it closed during the grinding process...has broken. Since it happened 4 months ago, we have continued to try to get a replacement. Every few weeks, Melitta, a division of Salton, sends us a postcard saying the part will be shipped in about 10 days. Backordered or not, their CS isn't very good. The thing still makes great coffee, but using tape to hold the lid closed is a nuisance.

OTOH, we've had good results with other brands, especially Braun.
