You make it sound like temporarily setting a static to bypass the nonfunctioning DHCP server is the same as using your account to send spam, it's not; and I doubt that abuse would take much action beyond blocking your modem and telling you to set it back when you called in to complain. Whatever.

Personally, I'll take it if I need to reboot and end up losing service (and will of course reset it to normal after 12 noon on Sunday).

BTW I've got a 4-day lease as of 8:03PM PST... looks good to me . No concerns anymore. Thanks everyone for the input.

I don't know where you got spam from. It's against the ToS and AUP. I don't make stuff up. If it's in there and you violate it you run the risk of having your services terminated. And that's what happens -- there is NO slap on the wrist, I've seen it been done to people. The safest way to avoid this problem is to not turn off your computer, simple as that.
