Telefonica Doubling? NOT!

spanishbob : Hi Alistair (Toro also feel free to jump in on this!)
I am still on telefonica ADSL 512/128 and they have not yet doubled my speed. When I go to their site ( »www.telefonicaonline.com/p/lm/es···elocidad )and check my number it tells me to "Si desea información sobre la velocidad de su ADSL, le rogamos que contacte con su número de Atención Comercial". So I give them a call via 1004 and it seems that they pass me onto just about everybody and their dog. Nobody can tell me why they haven't doubled my line yet! Furthermore, nobody can tell me WHEN they will double it.
I saw your post on YA.com and I followed along for the 4 Mbps line. Can I assume that after I enter my number and it proceeds to the next page (to choose additional hardware) that I can indeed get their 4 Mbps service? Will I get the same price they quote even if they resell telefonica?
The next question (should all these be affirmative- thereby clearing the way for a move to YA.com), is how I can switch services ALMOST seamlessly (i.e. experience as little downtime as possible during the switch)? Should I order YA.com first and then wait a week before switching off telefonica?
Thanks and much appreciated!
Spanishbob

I live in a small village 15 mins from a very large and cosmopolitan town in the the north of costa blanca. The nearest and all the surrounding towns have adsl broadband but we as a village do not. There have been many rumours over the past few weeks that adsl is coming to the village via telefonica. How do I find out if these rumours are true. I have spoken to Telefonica representatives in the nearest biggest town but they do not know? help me it is very important that I have a telephone services of any descriptionas i have none at the moment to speak of...I am connected to a very expensive but crap satelite system that I have been forced into buying into due to Telefonica's apathy in joining the rest of the civilised western world in modern day to day techonlogy we all take for granted... and the first person that say welcome to spain I will kill!!!! no doubt about it! many thanx from neroutic jane of spain

spanishbob : Hello Paul,
I have lived in spain for 4 years and it isn't really that big a deal fo ADSL. I currently live in Los Arqueros Urb. just up the ronda road and have had telefonica basic service (512/128) for the past year. It was difficult to get telefonica up there to begin with, but once it was up and running i haven't had any complaints except for real speeds of 430/100. I use a netgear wireless G router with a SPI firewall- as I get plenty of DOS attacks, you will have no problem setting up that router for use in spain. The options are pretty good nowadays and you can pick up a router/package for tiscali, terra, wanadoo, telefonica, etc at an opencor (close to where you are) or the El Corte Ingles. Mr. Toro seems high on Jazztel ( www.jazztel.es ) they have english too. I have heard others comment that they like jazztel and real speeds are better. Don't worry- plenty of good options overall for you.
Spanishbob
