Re: Sympatico@MSN email problems

I had trouble, too. Of course "tech support" was of no help. I use Thunderbird. I now have it working. Try this:

Set up outgoing SMTP as suggested, smtphm.sympatico.ca

Select TLS not SSL

Check mark for name and password. You'll be prompted for the password.

Of course, use your e-mail address as your name.

As xiphoidfugu mentioned, he uses Outlook Express, which doesn't have an option of TLS - only SSL.

As for Norton xiphoidfugu, if you are using the Internet Security package, you have to disable that as well since the Anti Spam filter attempts to scan your outgoing mail also.

You're right. I was responding to the original poster. Perhaps, though, since so many are now using Thunderbird the information will be of use.

Take care

Nabbed Thunderbird. (Already using firefox, I don't know why I wasn't using Thunderbird) Set up my account...used TLS for outgoing, now it's working. Norton I-net Security is running,
without E-mail scanning, which I guess still won't work on incoming as it's still SSL. Thanks for the help all. Gotta keep reminding myself that this forum is here.
