You put a cap........

You put a cap on my 100 gigs a month porno downloads

There is nothing funny about somebody cutting telephone lines. What if you were trying to call 911 and a family member died because of the cut line.

a. The telephone lines route, they'll find a way in the other direction unless the pole in front of your house got cut.
b.regarding the picture...Verizon DSL has no download cap
c.how could someone cut down a line without anyone noticing/hearing??!

I think these were copper cables serving local customers, not toll/long distance trunks. Local lines do not re-route when there is a cut like the long-distance trunks do.

As far as someone not noticing, go figure. Perhaps they were cut in the middle of the night, you would think someone would hear a chainsaw running though.

red you musnt know how telepony works bud the only way that they could reroute is if they were on a slic or aka RT and the slic service was cut and not the actual loops to premise and only then if the slic is multihomed for other access woudl it work if not whats worse in that situation you still get dial tone but when you go to dial low and behold you get a fast busy. I dont know of many lec's nowadays that do that only cause of operatings costs...thats why here in VT were actually looking at doing a VOIP idea where we have a cable modem in/near the RT depending how its setup and have the calls for 911 reroute if they are busy to the cable line and xfer them via VOIP to a PSAP thats how serious we are about these kind of issues

What if the phone line is out and u need to call 911?

Hmmmmm.... USE A CELL PHONE.

I do understand Good4Him's complaint, though. Verizon is obviosly in broadband for a profit(aren't they all???). Verizon will not pay extra to make DSL available(or any FAST form of DSL over 768k) to those who are inconvenient to reach. I can't get their DSL AT ALL and what is this? 2005??? This technology is decades old and yet no DSL. Thank God for cable.

On the other hand, the reason other countries like South Korea and Japan have forms of highspeed Internet is the high population density. There is a HUUUUUGE demand for broadband. Notice almost all CITIES in the United States have broadband, but when you get to the suburbs and especially rural areas, broadband(and EVEN 56K!!) is not available for all.

what do some of you sound like?

You sound like Islamic apologists. We are at war with the Great Satan (read Verizon) and anything done is acceptable. Big har-de-har-har what is next kidnapping and beheading of Verizon employees. There is absolutely, nothing, and I repeat nothing funny about any attack on such a vital part of our communications infrastructure. Who is to say this isn't a terrorist cell training for larger "hits". Gone are the days when we could call such things vandalism. Use a cell phone indeed this sounds like the infamous statement "Let them eat cake" You should be outraged.

Are you kidding me? If a cable is cut with your pair in it, thasts it, its out. Doesnt matter if its in your front yard or 20 miles away. If it feeds you and its cut, you are out of service.

Unless he is doing it in broad daylight, then no one would pay attention. Hell he would be better off getting a gun w/ silencer, and armor piercing bullets and hitting up cross connect boxes, or pair gain units for that matter. Either that or molotov cocktail an RT or cross box..

The risk of getting caught/seen in broad daylight is higher, but then again, how many people pay attention to stuff like that. Who knows he might even have legit signs and such, even state to the neighbors that he works for the phone company..

About as bad as car alarms in a big city.. sure... they will go off, but does anyone listen or even get up out of bed... no. However you let one of those go off in a small town quiet street block and everyone gets up out of bed.

Re: what do some of you sound like?

BTW- All of a sudden our communications infrastructure is VITAL! Tell that to the Managers running the area where a customer cant get DSL and his dial-up cant stay connected for more than 5 minutes cause the Loop is in need of repair or upgrade.
And if it is so vital(which I agree) how come it is SOOOO F'n accessible?
Oh, and use a cell phone or other backup line is the current answer given to people by the providers when using Voip and when it goes down because of service provider or access provider incompetence. Rember...according to them...Services offered are all BEST EFFORT.
