Re: DSL network speed erratic.......unreliable.

Hi
Edit This- I am in Oxford on an RT. I have exactly the same issues as you. Like you i am Behind a router(Doing PPPoE) running a SpeedStream 5100B(Latest Firmware).I get the same Error Message, this is happening on FF and IE6, My Speed test is Great and my Tweak test is Perfect. This`Behavior has been over the last month or so for Me. It Does Not have any pattern that i can see.

Well then it looks like my problem is the network which is outside of my home. Every test I have taken is fine. Just like you this behavior has been acting this way for well over a month. I wonder what the deal really is. Must be something in the RT's or larger network issues. What a shame to have a super fast connection only to be spoiled by a undefinable network problem. The fact that I can surf the internet and much of the time get fast speeds when clicking on links but then some of the time waiting 30 seconds really puts a major damper on my internet experience. I used to get consistent download speeds of 1280 down but now it's more around the 980 mark. That should not effect surfing speed though. I also used to never get the long "hang' times between clicking links like I get now. With the erratic behavior a technician would most likely just look at the tests for download speeds and see that there are no "bad wiring" issues inside or outside my house and conclude that nothing is wrong. But I know this is not right.......and there is really nothing I can do about it. I have to live with a less than stellar internet experience. If it keeps up then next year I go to cable. I hate to leave dsl because I have had it for 4 years. But this is just too aggravating. When I hit a link I never know whether it will take me 1/300th of a second to get to the page or 30 seconds. That is not good. Thank you to all who have so generously responded to me. It is appreciated very much.

Either swap-out your modem with your dad's or insist on getting it replaced by SBC.

I'll give the modem thing a try........but.........insisting on a new one from SBC won't work........I have had this one for 4 years.
