I don't think it will run on Windows 98 UNLESS you significantly upgrade Internet Explorer! We've had one or two threads about it, but in short, the Fireweasel depends on a component that is ordinarily supplied ONLY with an Internet Explorer upgrade.

I have 7 computers here at the house using firefox without any IE updates at all. In fact the first thing I do once I install from my win98se full install disk is install firefox so I can use it to search for any updated drivers.
I have had no problems at all.

It's a minor quibble, EXCEPT when you try installing on a new Windows 98 installation (by ftp or CD) without having to touch IE. I've tried.
Note: They may have fixed this in the last few releases, but I doubt it.

then what about linux?? i use it on my linux box and it requires nothing to do with IE on that box. i guess it could use a file from mozilla then....

That's the point. I wasn't RUNNING it at all, and had no intention to, which was exactly why I was trying to install the Weasel.
Anyway, I generally find myself happier with the real Mozilla suite.
