D-Link NAT Connection Monitor

I'm surprised that any version of the DI-604 would not work. Did you just download the software and try it?

This should work on the:
DI-524
DI-604 (confirmed, not sure on rev D)
DI-614+ (confirmed)
DI-624 (confirmed)
DI-624+ (confirmed)
DI-714P+
DI-764
DI-774
DI-784
USR 8054 (US Robotics)
SMC2404WBR (SMC)
WBR-3405 (Levelone)

Anyone have news on the:
DI-824VUP

I don't think it would work on the:
DI-514
DI-624M
DI-704
DI-704P/UP
DI-804HV
DGL-4300
DSL-G604T

Re: [Util] "DI-604 Connection Monitor" utility

Here's update 1.05: Substantially updated with new features and other improvements! Can show just the resolved domains (removes the IP); can set the text font now; can make the window always on top; can alter the resolve timeout value; shows type of resolve failure error and counts; smoother text display updating (and if cursor at bottom, stays at bottom); other conveniences added or changed.

Coming next: Logging of found text; ability to set colors.

(See above messages for past update notes.)

Feature requests, as you see fit:

1. If any text is selected (as in the beginning of a cut and paste operation), activate 'Pause' [

2. Use the time reference at the top of the screen, and the system time, to convert the time port-lastused time on the right side of the display

3. An installation program

And if you want to pull the data apart a bit

4. Sortable columns of the data

5. If a port opening is new, highlight it. If lastused is uploaded, highlight just that part.

...

And if you don't have enough to do, how about another application:

Log Monitor Utility
- reads »192.168.0.1/LOGFILE.TXT
- displays the most recent x entries in the log file every x seconds
- converts ip addresses to dns names
- runs as a service
- UI sits in the system tray and alert on particular ports or ips
- as new entries appear, maintains a running log in .txt or .csv format ... either in the native format or converted for dshield.org or mynetwatchman (no more 20 page limit)

Wow, good ideas! Comments:

1. Yep, would be a nice one.

2. Was actually thinking about doing something with the time values.

3. Guess would eventually be worth it for older OSs that don't include the msvb runtime, but other than that, it's one of those 'green' apps that can just run from its own folder and aimed at more experienced users who know what a router actually is, for example, so they could surely handle their own shortcut creation if wanted. hehe

4. Was thinking of toying with a true columnar list view, but could take a lick of work. Starting to sound like DonationWare now...lol

5. Yeh, working like a SysInternals thing would rock (like their TCPView, e.g.). Based on #4, we'll see.

About a util for LOGFILE.TXT, it appears that DI-604 does not share that feature (»192.168.0.1/LOGFILE.TXT reports "404 Not Found" here).

The ability to run as a service, or at least the system tray icon and alerting, is possible but will see how things go with other stuff first. The running log for found text is definitely next......

Thanks:)

This may be a dumb question but how does this tool get past the router password?

It's a great question.

Password not required.

Try it for yourself:
1. Close all browsers
2. click here -- »192.168.0.1/natlist.txt
RESULT: Comes up without asking for pw
3. Now click here -- »192.168.0.1
RESULT: Prompts for a pw

Thanks. This is a bit unusual. Try this with logfile.txt and it prompts for login.

This leads me to question if the natlist can be read remotely if remote admin is enabled.

Wow, couldn't anyone connect to an unsecured AP and spy on the traffic if Natlist isn't secured?

I just confirmed that natlist can be read remotely without login when remote management (admin) is enabled. In my view this is a security flaw.

I have just set up my router so interested folks can confirm the flaw. My router is set up at 204.83.206.52 port 80 for admin (it is pw protected) any source IP address. It will be up for 30 minutes. See if you can read natlist.

So it's confirmed? God damnit... now I have to turn on mac filtering + leave remote admin disabled. Why don't they THINK of these things BEFORE they just half-assedly implement them?

wow, that's fascinating! Did I expose a D-Link security issue?! lol I did always wonder why it didn't ever need a password here even when using a web browser.

My guess is that natlist.txt isn't a feature, it was a test hook.

My guess is that, now that it's out, we've seen the last of it. They're probably not going to fix it by adding the authentication -- they'll probably fix it by removing the page.

Seems like maybe it will not matter any more but for the 604 rev-D I have tried with different fw and none have worked (3.09 and 3.06). I just get an empty page with "Not found" on it.

I did some testing with tquade and I could see his (his fw 2.50) but he could not see mine (my fw 2.42).

Wow, that's weird because I have known about this file for quite a while and it worked while I had FW 2.42. Now I have upgraded yet it still works.

Does anyone have 2.52 beta that is willing to tell us if it's still there?

Well damn, if they do that, then they better add real logging at least!
