Ok, so I have a question for ya.. If you have ATT CV Voip service which includes VOICEMAIL, then WHY do you want to hook up an answering machine??

Makes sense. Most answering machines you can hit a button that will skip to the next message if they didn't leave one.

I think you need to rephrase that...

Is not that he CAN NOT use ANY answering machine... because he can (I did for a while)... but rather that AT&T DOES NOT SUPPORT them (as in give support to issues related to its usage).

As I read it, the Sipura line, if upgrade, will sense the disconnect on these machines.

Check this out (see number 2 )- »sipura.com/Documents/SPA_Version···ghts.txt

I could be wrong tho.;)

Re: [ATT CV] HEP WANTED " With Att VOIP" APPLY WITHIN

I have the Linksys PAP2 hooked up to a TAM and never had any issues. TAM hangs up after a couple of seconds of silence. Though I do get a busy signal right before it hangs up.

Also I am with Vonage but I don't think that has anything to do with whether or not the TA/TAM are compatible.

Get a VTECH, then switch to Vonage, because they do fast busy after disconnecting, so the answering machine should see that as a disco message... Mine works too well, but I like being notified by text message I have a voicemail, so I use vonage voicemail, but my answering machine, nonetheless, works perfectly...

Re: [ATT CV] HEP WANTED " With Att VOIP" APPLY WIT

FWIW, I recall having this problem right after I started my CV service but have not noticed it in months. I'm another that dislikes having to call in or check the CV website or my email in order to retrieve calls. Message is taken and answering machine releases as soon as the caller hangs up.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

My setup:

D-Link TA behind a Linksys WRT54Gv2 router, TA port on router configured for DMZ and highest QoS priority. Old Panasonic KX-TG2570S digital answering machine/2.4 GHz cordless combo. CV voicemail set to kick in at 4 rings, Panasonic set to pick up after 3, VOX enabled.

With Linksys RT41P2 and AT&T E5862 telephone/answering-machine, I am able to get voice mail without any problems on the E5862. I have not tried changing the number of rings on CV and the E5862 to have the voice-mail go to CV instead of the E5862 - the answering machine gets all my voice mail.

The strangest (one-time) occurrence was a recording instead of a dial-tone telling me to boot the router.

Re: [ATT CV] HEP WANTED " With Att VOIP" APPLY WITHIN

There is nothing wrong with your setup. The problem here is with ATT's implementation of routing PSTN call to VoIP. So here is likely what happened.

Caller calls your ATT number, and ATT answers the call. It then makes a VoIP call to you. Your answer machine comes on, and the caller hangs up. Some how ATT PSTN interface either didn't detected/process the hangup, or the hangup message did not propagate all the way to your VoIP box, or your VoIP box got the hangup message but doesn't drop the loop to your machines (this is most likely). So, your machine just goes on and on. The bad guy is probably your VoIP box, but ATT is partly to blame too. Their implementation should terminate their PSTN side of the call when hangup is detected. Knowing all this, people can take advantage of this ill side effect to make LD call for free.
