Interleaving is one of the things that allows them to deliver the higher speeds. You can have fast, or low latency. The DSLAMS Qwest is presently using have a range of at least 30,000 feet.

I think Verizon has mostly put a stop to any DSL expansion, for now, and are only concentrating on FIOS.

Here you can get 3000/768 DSL for $44, and 3000/256 Cable for $50. Most people are going to choose the cheaper option.

And if you want, you can get a package that's less than $30 a month, if you don't need all the speed. Cable doesn't have this option.

The only downfall is, people have to be fairly close to the CO to get 3000/768.
