Ok, I just called the 877# and got a total b*$ch who told me that nobody is getting rerated, I don't know what I am talking about, even after I read her an article right from online. She told me that this is what she was taught to do, and that there was nothing that she could do. And she really was nasty about it!!

I think I'll call back in a little bit and try again.

Boo!

That lady is full of it. I talked to a tech, called me to confirm that my line had been changed to the pro package, at SBC and he told me that this is available not only to existing customers but also to employees.
I had to call twice to get somone to re-up me to the pro package.

Good luck

Right now, I have the 1.5/384 package at 27 a month and have either the all distance or long distance package for like 48 i think? never even used it, just thought it was required for the dsl.

My question. Can I get rerated to 29.99 for the 3/512 package and also drop the long distance. That would be excellent dropping from 75 to 30 a month for dsl, and at twice the speed!

I'm slightly worried. Back on 3/3 I called in and got re-rated on the pro package down to 19.95. Wen to the SBC site just now and here is what it said about my DSL rate:

SBC Yahoo!®DSL Service for 773-XXX-XXXX
Downstream Speed: 1.5 Mbps - 4.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: 384 Kbps
IP Address: Dynamic
Monthly Price: Not Currently Available

It's that last line that has me worried.

I have received my first bill with the new rate. They got everything correct. Amazing. So I am now on the Pro package for 29.99.:D

Looks like this general topic made it to the BBR News Front Page:

Someone, somewhere, here at this site is busy poking knitting needles in their eyes. Especially after that "story" yesterday (#8 in the rabble rousing pet peeves list) about existing customers not getting new promo pricing. I also like the way they conveniently "forgot" about this thread.

The front page at this site is more of a joke every day. Maybe they can turn it into the "Tech Onion" so the made-up crap is at least funny...

Agreed. But, does anybody know for sure about my situation I posted above and whether or not it will happen? I plan to call Monday and see.

Not sure about that since you are on a bundled deal already. That one may be better asked of the SBC Direct folks.

Called 877-870-9852, gave her my BTN and told her I was an existing subscriber, wanted to re-rate and sign up for a one year contract. She asked for permission to see my records and I said yes.

She told me I couldn't get my existing grandfathered package (1.5/256) at anything other than the present $59.95/mo. She told me that if I qualified, I could have the 1.5-3.0/384 at $29.95, cheaper and faster in every respect. I asked her to check my line. (SBC techs here have previously told me it wouldn't go faster.)

She said I qualified. I said sign me up. She came back and told me my new contract would run 4Apr2005 through 4Apr2006.

Total time: about 10 minutes on a Monday morning.
DSL speed: will be at or above existing speed, depending on whether her test is more accurate than the guys here.
Price: drops to 50% of current rate.

Satisfied customer: Priceless

Just called the 877 number, and told the operator that I had been reading about how people had been getting the cost lowered to $19.95, and she told me that it was a new sign-up promo or for all-distance customers. I said that I had been reading about how people are getting the new price without all distance, she agreed and said she had no problem lowering my rate. So, as of 4/4/05, I will be on the new $19.95/mo rate. I did have to agree to a 1 year extension, however. But, that's OK. I've only had SBC for a few months so the extension is no big deal.

I also called this morning to get re-rated to 19.95 and was successful (I was hoping to upgrade to the pro package, but I'm too far away from the CO). I didn't even have to go through retention, the lady I talked to was nice enough to re-rate me.

So, I'm trying to figure out why Covad says I am 21,000 feet away from SBC, but SBC says I am eligible for 3 Mbps DSL. The two statements don't seem to go together...

Maybe because Covad is not providing SBC DSL service? SBC probably has a remote terminal near you and Covad isn't using it.

I spoke with "George" and he had me re-rated to the $19.95 plan within 2 minutes (no bundling necessary!). Thanks SBC...

Called today and talked to Jenny. I was polite and asked to be re-rated to the Express $19.95. She first said that plan was only for new customers or a plan with the LD package.
I said thank you and told her that I will call back to try and get the $19.95 plan. She then asked if she could put me on hold so she could talk to her supervisor. After about two minutes she came back on and said that her manager OKed her to wave the charges and she changed my plan to the $19.95 rate. I then said thank you for your help.
Remember being polite and persistent pays off.

I am on the 1.5 plan and called yesterday to upgrade but was denied because they said my line could't support it. Got a hold of wolfdragon in SBC Direct and they reprovisioned my line. Called back today and was easily able to upgrade to 3/512 at 29.99. I also called a separate department to cancel the long distance package I had and was surprised when the lady offered me the dsl upgrade even though I had just done that 10 minutes earlier. Seems like the SBC customer support is really improving.
