Re: SBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundling LD

said by Paulg:

just a question tho, what if you called in and started a new 12mo contract? would they re-rate you at the $29.99?
That's exactly what I tried. The "DSL Retention" department said "no," but if we complain enough, that could change.

That "could" be interpreted as for the next 30 days new orders only and after that perhaps something different like re-rates ??

Looks like some existing customers are getting this rate when they called SBC. (From another website)

Can this be taken care of in the SBC direct forum

If so, it'd be great!

Has anyone on here gotten the new price, without being a new customer? I'd love to get the 1.5-3 package for $30/mo instead of $27 for 1.5

In a nutshell from the press release:

$19.95 promotional pricing for SBC Yahoo! DSL Express and $29.99 promotional pricing for SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro available for new residential DSL customers. Offer only valid for orders placed online at www.sbc.com or through the Yahoo! online web affiliate channel, or if you qualify as an ALL DISTANCE® customer through the SBC sales channel; other third party channels excluded. Static IP products not included. Order for SBC Yahoo! DSL must be placed between 03/01/05 and 03/31/05. Offer not valid with any other SBC Yahoo! DSL promotion. SBC local service and one year term required. $200 early termination fee. At end of term, then-current monthly rate applies. If an ALL DISTANCE®-qualified customer cancels ALL DISTANCE® during the term, you will revert to the applicable term rate for DSL service. $150-$200 additional charge if technician install is required or desired. The equipment charge will appear on the first bill along with any corresponding and offsetting instant credits. Laptop users and some desktop users may need to purchase an Ethernet card. Billing begins on service activation date. Service not available in all areas. Subject to change without notice. Maximum speed achieved depends on customer location. Acceptance of Terms of Service required. Taxes and additional fees & surcharges extra. Other restrictions apply.

I guess us current customers will have to wait and see.

Called twice yesterday, no go. Called this morning no problems. My contract was to expire in March. Now I'm good at 19.95 for next 12 months.

Re: SBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundling LD

FYI, I just called and spoke with Dana at the number dropped above and informed her of the new plan. She went online to look at it and told me that it was only for new subscribers and she couldn't give it to me at this time.

I explained that I'm reading online several customers calling in and getting the new rate mid-term and she said she would transfer me to another department where they maybe could help me. I was on hold for about 3 minutes and then she came back on and told me her supervisor approved her to just lower my rate and that was that.

3000/512 for $29.99. I like it. THanks for the heads up!

1 edit

Should I call and attempt to get mine lowered, or should I keep the $26.95 price I'm at right now. Would they actually do it for a current customer like me is the question.

I wouldn't mine the 3000 mbps speed, and 512kbps upload speed at all.

another question though--could my phoneline even handle that speed

I'd love alot of internet speed

Well I re-upped my contract in December so they had no reason to do it other than to keep me happy and they did it.

I see no reason why you shouldn't at least try to do it, even if it takes a few calls to get it done. That's $84 a year you'll save. They'll be able to tell you if you can get the 3mb package.

Schwheat!!! Got re-rated/upgraded to the Pro Package for $29.99/month. I dialed 877.870.9582, stated that I wanted to re-rate, had to mention the SBC website offering the March Deal, they did a quick line test, and the rest is history! If it didn't initally go through for you, it's worth another try, for many posters over at other forums have reported success after a second or third attempt. Best of luck to everyone who gives it a shot!

I just got done calling for the third time . . . no dice.:(
I begged and pleaded and then begged some more. They all said the same thing, I'd only get the price decrease if I got the All Distance package or disconnected service/restablished service (2-3 week turn around).
Ordering online would only tell me that DSL service was already established at my address.

I tried but was shot down. I wasn't in the mood to push the issue and didn't want to threaten to cancel. I'll try back later and talk to someone else.

Re: can anyone tell me how much is the tax and fee

the price includes tax but does not include the USF fee. so you're looking at ~$22 for 1.5 or ~$33 for the 3.0 mbit plan.
