Re: can anyone tell me how much is the tax and fee?

Local phone line costs vary depending on the state you live in. I'm living in my own private Idaho so I can't help you with California, but I do know that in Illinois you can get local "bare bones" service for around $17 a month including taxes, fees and Big Ed's Legal Defense Fund.

Re: SBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundling LD

Basic phone service (in Chicago at least) is ~$12.75 with taxes and fees, and no calls made.

I think I read SBC imposes a higher FUSF fee on different DSL packages, for my Pro package it's ~$2.50

If you were able to obtain a re-rate please mention if you do or do not have the SBC All Distance Package.

Re: WOWSBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundlingLD

WOW, That was easy! I called the 877-870-9582, Biting my fingernails on hold for less then 1 1/2 minutes.. I get greeted professionally by a sweet sounding voice named Laura. I asked to be re-rated and am willing to verbally agree to another 1 year of service. Laura verified me and asked me to hold for one moment (about 30 seconds). She pulled up my account and said this would only take a minute! Surprised, she says OK Mr. XXXX, your current rate for SBC Pro service is 35.99 after your promotional discount and starting the 03-10 (7-days) you will be re-rated to the newest promotional offering from SBC of 29.99 after discounts. $200 early termination still applies to this contract as did the previous one and to be your completely satisfied; is there anything else I can help you with?? Stunned for a second, I just verified this doesn't effect my current phone service, she said kindly, no sir!
My God.. Thanks to whoever posted!!!!! less then 3 minutes I got handled. Without Touching my local package (which is NOT All Distance)

ChaChing ....

The person I got into contact with at the same 877-870-9582 was Tammy. Told her I've been a dsl customer for going onto 5 years, currently on the pro pkg and want to re-rate to the new 29.99 offering, agreeing to a new 1 year contract.

She stated to me that it is only available with the 'all distance' package. She did state that they were told just this morning that even existing customers are now allowed to get the offering with all disatance.

I told her she is probably not aware of it but there is a very busy sbc forum at dslreports.com. I said that in fact, there are official sbc techs that work the forum resolving issues for customers so it is definitely an accepted medium by sbc. I said that I am reading thread after thread in the forum where people are being allowed to re-rate with no other changes on their account.

She comes back with, "ok then, I will put this change through for you since others are being given the same thing anyhow". Didn't get put on hold for her to check with anyone else or anything. I explicitly verified with her that no other changes were being made to my telephone service/billing package. She stated "nope, just re-upping your dsl at the new rate for a year at 29.99".

I do not have the SBC All Distance Package, although I do use them for LD; and I was re-rated and upgraded to the Pro Package.

I might be wrong, but I think the kicker is going to be those who already have the Pro package won't be able to get the deal. It seems that if you don't have "All Distance" but want to upgrade to Pro at the special price then you can.

edit: Well looks like I am wrong after all!

Worked for me, though it took two calls to get it done.
First call was a no-go, as I was shot down by the all the reps i talked with. Tried again a few minutes later and the second rep re-rated my pro package to 29.99.
No all distance plan here, either.

What is also nice about this is I never paid the 36.99 rate since I upgraded in December. They gave me the 2 months for 26.99 promotion then, so I am very happy.

I struck out.
I do not have All Distance or SBC LD but do have two POTS lines and a boat load of features.
The polite rep claimed without All Distance on at least one of my lines the system won't let the lower rate go through.
I have a little bit of an unusual situation and always fear that SBC will munge things up.
I have a bare bones POTS line for Fax and DSL. No features whatsoever. It's my "secondary" line.
My primary line has a "grandfathered" package that, if ever dicked with, will go away and NEVER come back. SBC sells nothing close to that grandfathered feature set.
So I politely told her, thanks for trying, forget I ever called.
Se la vie.

YAY!

I just called in and Talked to Beth (very nice btw) I just told her I would like my DSL package re-rated to the $29.99 rate they have listed on the web page and she said ok no problem! Agreed to a new 1 year contract and that was that.
She did at the end confirm that it was the $29.99 price.

My boss on the other hand called right after I did (she has the Express package) and was also asking to upgrade to Pro. She talked to Jason, he went to ask his supervisor and he told her no it was only for new customers and sited it would be breaking the fcc rules or something.

She will call back later and try again.

Neither of us have the all distance package, just basic phone service.

Looks like doing business with SBC has eroded into being a "crap shoot".

Spoke with Jessica - don't know which call center but she said "have a nice afternoon" when it was still Am in CST so my guess is it was somewhere in EST.

Anyhow, it was seamless. She re-upped me for a year - something that was going to happen anyhow - kept me on the pro package (we'll see when it kicks in - if there is a problem I'll take it to direct) and dropped me from $36 down to $29.95.

Hey, that's $70 per year - enough for one baseball game with the kids in the cheap seats with one dog per person!

I just signed up 3 weeks ago for the pro package and only local phone service, I call the # listed higher up in the thread and within 2 minutes had the new price. Very sweet deal, I hate to like SBC but they have given me good service.

I called today and had to play alittle hardball with the sales rep. She told me that it could only be been done for 36.99 and that 29.99 was only for new customers. Once I told her about this website and that others were re rated she told me that wasnt happening and that they must have all been new to dsl. Since my contract was up I told her to cancel and I would move to comcast HSI and thats when her tune changed. I was placed on hold than she came back and told me that I was going to be upgraded to PRO for 29.95 which is sweet cause I was paying 26.95 for express. All in all very happy with SBC dsl and this new price/speed are what I was looking for when I was thinking of going over to comcast. I was told that the speed increase would be on the 10th of March and on the 10th I should unplug my modem than plug it back it so that it can learn the new speeds, does that sound right to anyone??? Thanks to this wonderful board cause without it I would still be on Express.

Hi

Just called in, but lucked out getting the $29.99 deal, but I upgraded to pro package anyways, only $36.99, from $26.95, so not a bad deal either, was paying with cable internet $83 something a month. I think I'll enjoy Pro dsl on the 10th of March.

Just called the number posted on page 2 in the topic and within 5 minutes got my rate changed to the 29.99 for the pro package. I had just signed up mid february. I talked to Christina. She gave me no hassles about it or anything, explained I had known of others that got rerated and she said no problem.
