Re: SBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundling LD

I called yesterday and had little trouble in getting the 29.99 rate for 3.0 package. My due date is March 11. Fingers are crossed. This will be nice, big speed increase for almost the same as what I am paying now. :D

I just signed up back in December. Worked for me, called yesterday and starting March 11th I'll supposedly be paying $19.95 for the 1.5 plan.

Re: WOWSBC lowers pricing to $19.95 w/o bundlingLD

Thursday I called SBC to try to re-rate my pro package at 29.99 but the sales lady would only let me rerate at 36.95, so I said it is better than nothing and I rerated at 36.95. I then kept reading this forum and watching everyone else get rerated with their current package so I decided to call SBC this morning and talked to KAT. I told her I was currently on the PRO package and would like to get re-rated to 29.95. I told her I saw the article on dslreports.com and that existing customers in the forum were getting re-rated. She said she will be happy to make the change for me. I couldn't belive it! I got the 29.95 and my 1 year contract extended another year. So I hung up and was thinking "OH CRAP" I hope she didn't add the ALL DISTANCE! So I called back to make sure KAT didn't add it and AMY said that KAT did not make any mention of it in the order and nothing will change on my POTS line. Thanks for the person who found the article and posted on this forum. you saved me $120 bucks a year.

I called yesterday and spoke to Dani. At first she told me that the $19.95 deal was only for new customers. Current customers could only get it if they switched to the all distance plan. After mentioning that several people on broadband reports had gotten the the deal without having to include or change the long distance plan, she said ok and gave me the $19.95 rate.

When I cancelled Comcast recently they offered me a $10 discount on the 6/768 tier. They just couldn't match the SBC deal, for an identical price to Comcast's internet access I could get SBC DSL and local phone service and the service is a lot more stable.
Ask for 20 discount, and it will only be 10 dollars more then 19.95 so it isn't impossible to do.
Ask for 1 year at that rate as well if not say bye

How would I go about rerating online? or do I have to call again sometime and try rerating a second time for $29.99 for Pro.

thanks

Give it a shot, you may get lucky. If not, wait and do it on a weekday (Tues-Fri., Mondays they are overloaded again) during "normal business hours". You'll tend to get more "A team" people on the phone, and they are more likely to work with you and not just blow it off since they don't get any sales credit for these.

In case you need another reference when calling, here is a SBC page that describes the $29.99 package without any mention of required bundling:

I called again just now and had no difficulty getting the $30/mo rate for DSL Pro. I think the rep's name was Janie.

This is why I love this Forum so much! I continue to save money.

Just called in and switched to the $29.99 deal with no problems at all without the All Distance Service.

I asked whether it required that I have the AD service and was told "not anymore".

Good luck everyone. Should see my speed increases soon!

OK
2nd time's a charm.
Called again, waited in the queue 2 minutes.
Requested a Pro Re-Rate to $29.99 and NO POTS CHANGES.
Rep said "no problemo" and set the re-rate effective 3/10/05.
World of difference compared to the Friday attempt.

Hi

Everytime I try, I always get turned down..I'm sorry you doing meet the necessary requirements for the $29.99 price. Maybe I'm just too nice, and don't get mean enough or something.

I just spoke to someone who wasn't the nicest SBC person I've ever spoken with. She wouldn't do it. I stated that a lot of BBR members had gotten the deal and asked how that was possible. She said that was because they had reached someone willing to do it for them, but she was not.

At which point you just hang up and redial...

It's not an advertised thing, and they are under no obligation to give it to you. Not to be nasty about it but it's like complaining to the Starbucks counter clerk because they won't knock a buck off your caffe latte just because you heard someone else got the same deal from a different clerk.

If your time is worth the savings, try, try again.
