 | reply to dks7 I just got dsl (1.5) a few days ago, they just setup the lines and everything, for our area (i live away from my town a ways). The first thing I did was download something... I was liking the speed, 163kbs. But when it came to games I was getting at minimum 100 ping in css and 130 in ut2k4. I was thinking it was the POS router/modem they sent me. When I was living in town I would get 50 easy in all the games but I was using different equipment. Then I read about this interleave deal in these forums. So I tried tracert and my first hop to the router was 1ms but to the next was 62ms, then next hop was 64ms.. and so on. That was with only my computer hooked up with nothing running. I wish I could change dsl service from qwest but where I live it's the only company I can use. I'm not too down with interleave but if it's the reason it can reach to where I live then I'll live with it. I mean 56k just isn't practical with 4+ computers in a home. |

 | reply to dks7 'diemonkey', don't listen to all this 'interleave' crap! It's just an excuse for 'gamers' to explain away why they can't beat other players at whatever game they are playing... if 'they' only knew...
I have 'gamers', here at the house, and they do just fine on 1.5 Mb Qwest -- thank you. They just have to 'cheat' a little harder, IMHO.
The latest thing is, they have formed an 'association' of sorts. They call it a 'clan', I believe (I try to ignore this stuff), and they attack other 'gamers' in mass. That is, they actually talk to each other on a 'walkie-talkie' sort of device, and 'gang up' on other users. "Hey, that friggin' so n' so just came around the corner!" (pause) "Yeah, I got him. How about so 'n so?" (pause) "He's dead!" And, so forth, and so on...
I heard one 'gamer' in the house saying he had '1300 kills' last night, before 'they' (another clan, I assume) got him.
Now, you got 'lone wolves' out there, trying to play 'one-up' against these 'clans', whether they know it or not, and can't figure out why they 'die' all the time. They think it's because of 'interleave', when in fact, 'they' don't have a clue of what's going on in the background...
Join/form a 'clan' or die! It's as simple as that. Don't blame it on Qwest...

PixelFreakInnocent Until Proven Guilty join:2001-02-21 Bremerton, WA | reply to Vin DSL Wow, Vin is back to his blatant trolling.
Posting something as sarcasm, disguised as a supposedly informative, on-topic post, simply to excite those that are on this post to engage them in psychobabble.
It's really getting old.
As for the original topic - interleave is an issue to those that want control over their internet connection. These issues seem to be most urgent for those that play first person shooter (FPS) games because of the quick reactionary time needed to succeed at a high level on these types of games. Many theories have been advanced as to why this is a moot point (interleave) as well as many theories as to why it actually influences gameplay.
Whether you believe in the theories or not, blatant trolling and mocking isn't really appreciated - nor is Vin's usual commentary on that which he does not understand.
He doesn't have a line quality strong enough to get interleave turned down - he needs it to keep his line. Enjoy it, have fun with it, but don't bash others that want control over their technology. It's a per user setting (yes, Vin, we have already covered this) and does not affect him - so what's he doing still griping about a topic he is too ignorant to grasp? (By his own admissions and posts above, he does not game, so why comment on it? He can't have it, nor does he want it, leave it be - troll)
I am honestly bored with his posts on this topic. We have repeatedly shown him why he is completely wrong on this issue and should not concern himself with posting inflamatory responses on this topic - yet here we are again (read the entire thread - he's been slapped a few times already). So, onto the "ignore" list he goes.
As soon as Qwest allows a per-user setting for those that qualify on interleave reduction, I will be forced to stay with cable because of the restrictions.
It's my choice, I vote with my dollar, and I sympathize with those that do not have an alternative in their neighborhood, or don't have a stable line in order to avail themselves to lower interleave settings.
Vin, answer all you want - hopefully the ignore feature will never force me to look at your inane troll-babble again.
For the rest of us trying to get Qwest to understand our dilemma (give us the 'option' of trying it out (reduce or turn off) on our lines if we request it - turn it back on if it's not stable or feasible), keep up the good fight and don't feed the trolls.
Anyone else had success getting it turned off on a per-user basis? (I still have Comcast so I can't tinker or request it - I am waiting for the new policy (rumored) to kick in before I return.)
