Verizon Bait and Switch

Well I have been a VOL DSL customer since 2000. At that time I was 12,613ft from the CO in Hatboro PA. They told me they would try it and see if it would work since there limit was 12,000ft at that time. (Note: this was when they were Bell Atlantic= When they were good) Well it worked, my rates were 768/128 and they were rock solid.

So now it the beginning of December of 2004 and I just got my bill. I noted that I was still paying the 40.00+ dollars since the day I got it. So I call Verizon and and renewed my contract with them for 29.95 and upgrade my DSL to 1.5m/384K. The sales woman said that it will be changed over in a day and I should Wait 2 weeks for the new modem.

Well it has been 2 months now and I still have no Kit and my DSl is locked at 1.5M/128K. But they did drop the price of the DSL to 29.95. So I call (3/2/05) there tech support and get this tech that seems to know his stuff. He looks at my account and says that downloads were changed but the uploads were not. He said it was due to an issue with my modem (westell 6000 Lite Line) and I would need to get a VOL approved one so they could fix my uploads. He tells me he will keep the service call open and sent me to billing so I could get them to over night me a modem and once they see the right modem they would automatically fix my uploads. So now I am talking to the girl in billing who UPS'ed a install kit over night for free.

Now that I have the new modem (3/4/05), I install it and do a test. Nap, I am still locked at 1.5M down and 128K up. so I figured that I would wait a day to see if my uploads would get fixed. Nap, they did not.

I called VOL tech support to day and tell the guy that my uploads are still locked at 128K and I have installed the new modem and I also told him the history behind the call and that the only reason that I called was that I noticed that my support ticket was closed and my uploads were not fixed. So he tells me to do a speed test to see what my line is set to. So I do the test and tell him. So I wait 5 minutes and he tells me to do it again, so I did. Now after doing 4 of these tests he tells me he has to get his supervisor. (Note: All tests came out the same) He gets back on the phone and tells me that my line dose not qualify for the upgrade and my order never went thru. He also tells me that I am 17,000+ feet from the Co and that I need to talk to billing. I told him that is a crock and that they are try to do a bait and switch. I also told him that I was 12,613 so feet from the co and that the sales woman and the first tech confirmed this, and I was also told this back in 2000 when I first got dsl, since I was on the 12,000 ft border. So he gets quite, then he transfered me to billing. ( busted )

Now I am on the phone with billing. Now this guy is also saying that I don't qualify for the up grade and I am 17,000+ Ft from the co. So I tell him the same thing about Bellatlantc and that I push my full speed with no errors. I also asked him how did I move 5000ft from the co. Was it from an earthquake? Did they move the co? Or did they add 5 1000ft spools of cable to my line? He had no reply. At that point I hung up on him. (Note: My line is still caped at 1.5M/128K Funny since I don't qualify for it.)

As far as I am concerned, verizon is doing a bait and switch so they can keep there bandwidth overhead low. It also makes me wonder if they really are upgrading there main trunk equipment to support Fios. Only time will tell.
