As to the gentleman's contention that they're doing this to get us to switch to FIOS - that's absurd. FIOS is not available in any major metropolitan city and I live in an MDU. FIOS won't be here for 2-4 years at least.

Firstly i'm not talking about the huge leap in distance you experienced. I am refering to people like myself who went from kinda far to a little past kinda far. As for not installing in metropolitan area... Last time i checked the cost of an install in philly would be many times greater than in bucks county where i am. Bucks has more people than philly, and the people are WAY wealthier. The install here involves trenching in grass near sidewalks and running lines between telephone poles (also from poles to houses). This pales in comparison to a largely underground install in places like NYC or most of philly where sidewalks and streets must be torn up to change anything underground where manhole access is limited.
