Thats an optical terminal for the private houses on your block to be connected to.
The Fiber distribution terminal where the fiber jumpers will be placed is the big beige box mounted high on a pole with the stand Ed.
Unless you see them pulling fiber cable into your building, it's not available for you. I pray for you Ed that your landlord allows FIOS into the building

Well... Verizon apparently realized they can install whatever they needed to install to provide FiOS to my home without needing access to the property.

After eight years from the start of this thread, FiOS is finally available at my address.

This is excellent news. It will force Cablevision to keep giving me the promotional discounts I currently enjoy. And I will put this to the test when my promotional pricing ends at the end of November.

Or I can check out what Verizon offers. I feel Verizon is an evil company, but my wallet does most of my decision-making these days. We'll see what happens...

Nothing new to report from Bedford Park. I'm still waiting and hopeful that Fios will be available soon.

The waiting is the hardest part.
Because I had optimum at the time about 10 years ago FIOS was in its infancy and I couldn't get it and it would be a while so I just forgot about it.
Even when the building was being wired it seemed like it was going to take forever because it looked like they finished the work and then weren't around for a week. Then trucks were out side. And then nothing for a while. Then finally they had a sales force in the foyer.Buy then it took a week for them to get to my apartment to install.
All the work from when they installed the pipe till they finished the wiring of the building and started taking orders was about 6 weeks to 2 months.

Thanks for replying. I figure it'll be the same situation here: they've already installed the boxes on utility poles on Villa Avenue but haven't connected the fiber cables yet. Since my building is on Bedford Boulevard, which is across the street, I'm curious as to how Verizon technicians will run the fiber to it.

Until then it's waiting...and more waiting.

Is it a big box about 3 foot x 2 foot?Usually when they get all the boxes in house wired up they go down to that box on the pole to turn the connection on.I would guess its a distribution point for the block.

If they've begun wiring your area then maybe Bedford Park will be next (I can always hope).

Was it Verizon refusing CO OP city?
I thought the CO OP city management was owned by Cablevision?

Coop city is a dire warning to any new ISP coming into NYC. Letting any condo/Landlord or Management corp dictating what comes into the building will always kill competition and better deals. VZ needs to step up their scare tactic with landlord that refuse to let any utility come in because is illegal to do so.

What was "posted" awhile back was that the Coop City management had agreed to allow Verizon FIOS To wire Coop City. However, Cablevision has an "exclusive marketing" arrangement with Coop City and Verizon didn't feel it could properly market FIOS in Coop City if Cablevision has "exclusivity" in marketing.

it should be fair play for all ISP's no sweetheart deals. Bring your Best or get kick to the curv by the competition. Im not a fan of google at all but if they offer a better service then bring it to NYC.

Unfortunately, Verizon is the one losing out here. Wire Coop City and try to find other ways to market your product that does not violate Cablevision's exclusive marketing deal.
