I have a DCT-6200 and I have no problems hooking it up via Firewire to my Mac Mini and recording HD to it.
Same here...I use firewire to my JVC DVHS with no problems. I did have problems with my older non DVR HD unit (forgot which DCT it was) but my dual tuner DVR streams just fine. Putting tons of HD content (eg LOTR) on HD-DVHS.

While the Motorola/iGuide isn't perfect, it's really a very nice system. The vast majority of issues that people complain about are minor software glitches that can be ironed out. The major glitch (analog channel freezing) seems to have already been solved. Fixing the remaining problems rests prmiarily on TVGuide/iGuide, and not Motorola anyway. I was surprised to read that boxes are apparently capable of doing the uCentric / multiroom stuff.

Even with all of the problems its a heck of a box. When they get all of the issues fixed I'm sure they will start working on some new features such as getting the firewire ports active to work with external HD's. There will be plenty of other upgrades possible now that comcast has decided to go full force with the box. Of coures this is just speculation on my part but I feel that if they are going to make such a big investment they will go ahead and get all of the features working on the 6412.

Regardless of the problems which are mainly firmware related and being addressed/fixed, it's just not really feasible nor would it make sense for an MSO such as comcast to completely switch their end uder equipment which in turn requires head end equipment to also be changed.

What do either have to do with each other? Comcast can't just up and say, screw you Motorola I'm going with SA now because your boxes suck. They would have to do major over-haul to the head end since Moto and SA equipment(the only to conditional access providers) aren't compatible with each other(with the exception of the SA 8000s working in Moto headends).
