| what's a telco? the traditional telcos would have you think that the services they push are indispensible; really, nothing could be further from the truth. i yield that ymmv but we punted our verizon landline right out the front door approx 24 mos ago in favor of cable isp & a national shared gsm plan. back when i had something called a "landline" (remember those??), i always HATED IT when i had to call verizon for something & the call rep gave a thinly veiled "do i have your permission to review your account?" question that, in plain english said "how about if i try to sell you stuff that you don't need". my answer was always: "you may look at my account but you do not have my permission to try to sell me anything"---which typically resulted in silence but the calls were much shorter & far less annoying. have we missed our landline? not for a single second. the telcos need to wake up & reassess what & how they sell. i'd consider naked dsl not because i'm dissatisfied w/ comcast----but simply because competition is always beneficial for the consumer. bub |
