PS2 laser is fried?

Bagnon : Hey guys, I've had my PS2 for 3 yrs now I think and my problem is that it doesnt read at all. i will put a disc in and it will spin once and nothing. The laser doesnt even shine. (I opened it) So, i'm guessing a got a fried laser here? I've been waiting for GT4 for the longest time and now that it's out I can't play it. BOOOOO. So, what now? I buy a new laser and get it installed? or take it in and have someone look at it and let them decide?
--
----gg's and happy gaming----
