Verizon $29.95 but half the speed!

I have had Verizon DSL for several years and about a yeat ago the upgraded me to 1.5 Mbps download. I was paying $34.95/month. Th=ey announced the $29.95 price with 1 year contract and the price increase on month-to-month. I took the $29.95, and immediately found my speed reduced to 738 Kbps. I phoned Verizon technical assitance, and they told me that was all the speed I could get because I was 18,000 feet from the CO. However, I am less than 11,000 feet from the CO and my house has not moved! When I told them I had been getting 1.5 Mbps previously, they admitted they had inserted a loading coil in my line which made it electrically 18,000 feet. When I asked them to remove it, they said the can't. When I had them bump my call uip to a higher level, they promised I would be back to the higher speed within 5 hours. That was Friday, and it is still 738 Kbps! So much for truthfulness from Verizon! SO beware when Verizon comes bearing gifts! The $29.95 rate has a hook in it!

It pays to be persistent in complaining to Verizon. I called Billing again today, and told them they had promised last Friday to put me back to 1.5 Mbps and hadn't. They said they would adjust my account and I should see the change in less than 72 hours. However, when I got home about 5 hours later, my speed was back to 1,500 Kbps download/340 Kbps upload.
