I thought that the key was f10 or f11, but I would have never guessed that you would have had to press the ctrl key also to activate it.

I got an Inspiron 600m in February and ran across the restore instructions in the user's manual. You press CTRL+F11 at boot to initiate it, and it restores from a hidden partition on the hard drive.

I went to my laptop and did a screen capture with the full instructions (attached). You might want to double check Dell's site to see if the same procedure applies to the 1000. Good luck!

I'm trying to fix it for a friend and they gave me everything that they got with it. They did not get a dell xp disk or a dell resource disk.

How am I supposed to restore this damn thing. Is there a key that I can press upon boot up that will start the recovery without any extra disk? If not I can install windows xp, but I prefer not to do that if I don't have to.
