JTY : Just wanted to add. I've unlocked my DTA-310.

I tried flashing to the AR16O firmware, when my DTA was running 0.13.15. This resulted in the download failed mode.

I reflashed the DTA to 0.13.12, which worked. Afterward I was able to upgrade to the AR16O firmware.

In the end, I had to perform a reset on the device as it wasn't pulling an IP via DHCP.

Prairie Dog : Hey guys, thanks for the info. I was able to download it to my old packet8 gizmo. I currently have sunrocket, but would like to also add Broadvoice. From reading this thread, it looks like I can use the packet8 gizmo to sign up for broadvoice BYOD. Is it difficult to setup to use with broadvoice, and will broadvoice allow this gizmo on their system. Will broadvoice assist me in setting it up, or am I on my own... Thanks for any help

deheza : Found the Leadtek manual. The DTA-310 is a BV8051S without a PSTN jack.

The factory reset is:
1. Unplug the power.
2. Connect the telephone to phone 1 port.
3. Lift the handset off hook.
4. Use a pin(paper-clip) to push the RESET button at the backside of the device. Hold it while you plug the power back to the device. The power LED should be flashing rapidly.
5. Continue to hold the RESET button until you see four of the six LEDs flashing several times in pairs. Release the pin and wait until all LEDs stop flashing. This whole process may take up to 10 seconds.
6. Put the handset back on the telephone (on-hook).
7. The factory defaults should have been restored.

There is a lot of other setup info in the manual - I don't remember the phone handset needs to be off_hook for a factory reset. I remember having a problem after the factory reset, the SIP ToS/DiffServ settings were both FF and it wouldn't work. I believe I changed them to Call Signaling Packets: 04 & RTP Packets: 10. Saw a screen capture on this forum where they were both B8 for FWD. I'm not sure exactly what they do, but did find the hard way they are critical. Explanation anyone? Please.

I got the same error, I was able to get it to the AR160, worked for 2 days with Globe7 but I didn't like the voice quality so I tried to flash back to DTA version 12.35 but now the DTA is dead the phone led is flashing and I got fast busy and every time I try to flash back to DTA 12.35 I get the error

Normally a fast busy means that the DTA was unable to reach a sip or that it wasn't registering properly. I've never done this but that may be your problem. Are you sure that you are registering to the correct SIP for stanaphone? Also do you have the correct user name and password?

dustenm : deva: I just uploaded the AR160 firmware and had the same problem. The unit is actually worked correctly there is nothing wrong with it. Just log into your router and check there you will see a different IP address for the unit as well as a different name you will see something that says BVA8051 instead of DTA

then just go to this address and log in and the you can change the unit settings and get it to work.

deva1 : Were you able to get the DTA310 back alive? I have the same problem after a sucessful download of the AR160. My DTA310's "link" flashes very fast while "phone" flashes slow and "power"comes on once in a while. Can't get to the web interface. I picked up an analog phone that is plugged in the DTA310 and got fast busy. I own the DTA310 after more than a year service from P8. Please let me know if you have restored the TA. If not I am just going to trash it. Thanks for your help in advance.

I received an email from one person suggesting that loading version 1111 while still connected to the internet may somehow lock the adapter to further firmware upgrades. Can anyone confirm this?

gatzdon : I would also try the 12.39 version from the "Packet8: Restore DTA-310" sticky at the top of this forum. That is the version I had on an old DTA-310 when I successfully upgraded to AR160.

rizzo2dial : When you say 12.35 Packet8, is it Packet8's actual 12.35 firmware or rcilink's hacked 12.35 firmware?

Anyway, try Packet8's most current firmware (13.xx). Also, make sure you've disabled any software firewalls on your PC before doing the update.

If you get any other firmware to "take," then try upgrading to the LeadTek.

Touch_Tone : I tried Packet8 12.35 as well as the Leadtek AR160. The error message pops up at about the same time on each one every time I try. Some of the lights blink and then one of the lights starts to blink very rapidly at the same time the screen indicates that it is beginning the download. Then, a few short seconds after that, it gives me the error message.

To me, it's acting like it wants to work, but is running into something that stops the download dead in its tracks. I was thinking maybe it was a password issue but when I looked at it I believe it said something like "no password". I'm not in front of it right now so I'm not 100% sure what the words were.

Hopefully, this gives more insight into my situation. Any thoughts based on this?

Touch_Tone : Got a problem, hopefully not a big one. I downgraded my DTA to version 1111 sucessfully. Everything seems to be working as expected. However, now when I try to upgrade to anything else I get "Upgrade Failed". What is/are the likely issues preventing me from installing another firmware version? The goal is to get the DTA310 to Leadtek's AR160 configured for use with FWD. Any suggestions?

goonierag : brut if got the ar16 firmware on it and working fine, to to download and on your computer find 12.35 and download it. First time will look like going into download and a bar wiil com up but then blank, Click on home then download find 12.35 again annd download again. Second time it will go through. Also you can set the port at what you want in ar16. just put the number in. 5060 for most incoming and outgoing, don't need to flash back.

brut7 : Thanks for the info though I saw it too late.

I flashed my DTA310 to AR160 and screwed myself because the port needed for P8 is too high a number to set.

Now I cant get it to flash back and I've tried numerous ways and different firmware :( and used the info on the threads here for that purpose. If anyone has a good trick to restore it, I'd love to hear it.

No biggie though set calls to forward to my cell and getting Sunrocket as my P8 1 year obligation is up next week (already ordered sunrocket, want that better codec but hope they work out the outages soon!).

Don't use the LeadTek AR16O firmware with Packet8. Even if you get the right settings to work it with them, they will lock your account-- cuz they want all users to use their device (with their firmware).

I figured out what was causeing the problem for mine doing what your also is doing. Under sip extentions, sip timer value has to be 3600 but ar16 will only let you put in 3 digits not 4. Have to put firmware 12.35 back on your dta and change it to 3600 then put the ar16 firmware back on. Go to download and find your 12.35 software and grab it and download it. will at first go to blank download page,just hit home when it does and then go back to download again and find it where you have it saved second time it will download it. Change timer value to 3600,save it reboot dta then go to download page and redownload ar16 and should fix that toll free busy signal problem

goonierag : my toll numbers was working fine up to a week ago with ar16 now like gatzden. With going back and forth between ar16 and 12.35 firmware for dta now my too free numbers get the budy signal but can call any other number. Seems like has to do with the asterrick cause can use sip.globe7.com and the toll free numbers works fin. Unless has to do with the part where you either have to pic 10 numbers or 11. Tried both and no go for toll free numbers. Noticed also now when calling my packet8 number **8981304####### it rings but goes strait to voicemail but my voicemail is set to 6 rings.

I can dial FWD numbers, but I get a busy when calling packet8 numbers in addition to toll free numbers.

Does anyone have any toll free numbers for UK or other countries to use to test?

The question is, Is it possible that the discrepancies people are having are based on the firmware version and packet8 settings on the DTA-310 prior to flashing the unit with AR160. Is it possible that there are other settings that we don't have access to with the AR160.

rcilink : The following dialplan was posted (and apparently works with FWD-- allowing 1-800 numbers to be dialed, it adds the '*' at the beginning of the number for you). Make sure you dial 1-800-xxx-xxxx. Don't put the '*' when u dial..!

But I cannot dial the *1800 numbers or 411. Does anyone have this problem?

I ran a ethereal trace when the call went through but cannot determine why far end is returning a 404

lensor : I've been trying to get the DTA310 and AR160 to work with Voipbuster with limited success. Calls can be made, but only with one-way audio (outgoing, no incoming).

I found I had to follow the same steps others have posted:

Using "download" link in DAT310 web management interface to update the firmware:
1. Downgrade DTA310 to 1111
2. Upgrade to unlocked 1235
3. Upgrade again to AR160
4. Reboot DTA310 after every setting change with AR160.

Without the downgrade, it seemed to hold on to a few of the Packet8 settings.

The one-way audio problem is very similar to a problem I had working with Xpro (connecting to VBuster).

Solution on Xpro was to set "send internal IP" to "never".

I cannot find a similar setting on the AR160 (BVA8051) web configuration interface and cannot capture packets to see if this might be the problem.

Any one have any ideas?

p.s. Unrelated, but I found a note on the Leadtek website that says to enter the port numbers; "default" notes indicate the normal entries, not what is used if left blank.

stefan0325 : It works fine for me. The only thing I don't like is the limited support and information you can find to help you set it up. Nothing is more complicated than a Sipura, but all the support you can find on it makes it easy. The DTA310 is a little simpler (less options) to set up, but you can find no help if you need it.

Just did it this morning. Sitting here looking at a white "DTA 310 Terminal Adapter" that I got a long time ago and decided to mess with today. I flashed it with the AR16 firmware (LDTK AR16O) and got it working with my Asterisk server. Other people seem to have had good success with getting it to work with various VoIP providers. I use a combination of Verizon POTS and VoicePulse Connect! running through my Asterisk sever; your mileage may vary.

gatzdon : Actually, the leadtek site states that the AR170 firmare is for four different models. I am assuming that is the case with the AR160 and that the DTA310 is similar to the BVA8051 which has similar specs.

I've got another DTA-310 and I just wanted to do a reality check before I tried again with the AR160.

The OP should put a note on the first page (if possible) that it appears that the AR170 updates the downloader application and may render the box useless. This is not a definite thing, but there is at least one other person who posted here and got the same result as me. I now know for a fact that I used the AR170 as that is what is linked to from the leadtek website.

The funniest part, the LeadTek AR16O firmware is actually MADE for the LeadTek BVA8052, a non-oem'd version of the "BPA410" black box that packet8 is selling as their new DTA... So, with that said, you should be able to load your sparkly-new BPA410 with the AR16O firmware.

Packet8 has a vested interest in the hardware. It runs on the Audacity T2U chip (made by one of their 'companies' of the past... called Netergy).. I would imagine that they get the units at amazingly cheap prices since they dont need to pay royalties to themselves...

sorry if this sounds cynical, but I'm sure packet8 knows if you use this and can see it and will think twice before replacing your DTA if it locks up when you use firmware 11.11 or the AR160.

if I felt confident otherwise about company warranties I would've modded my xbox last year and forgot about my best buy warranty
other words, don't do stuff unless you know what you are doing and are willing to take the risk (i think its been stated before this is for people who have DTA's and don't have service with Packet8 but just wanted to mention it again)

dzr : I tried AR160 with Stanaphone. Sometimes the other side can hear me and sometimes not. I can hear and talk all the time. I put STUN on (using softjoy's STUN server). I tried manually entering the STUN port.

gatzdon : Well, using the prompt after the soft reset, I entered a valid IP, valid subnet mask, valid gateway, and a valid DNS address. Even after it gave me the busy signal (with message solid and link blinking), I still couldn't access it. The leadtek software didn't detect anything. I think I am ready to give it away.

gatzdon : Not always, but sometimes, something will timeout and the message light will stay steady while the link light blinks and the phone gets a busy signal. Even then, it still doesn't get an IP address from the DHCP server or use the one that I specified using the reset button and handset. I see my computer on the DHCP list, but nothing else. The Leadtek utility for scanning a network for the device doesn't find it either.

I opened it up for kicks and I see the spot on the board for the host connecter (no connector attached) and another spot that might be for a small connector. Of course nothing I would recognize, I just thought on a long shot, there might be some jumpers or something inside.

I imagine I could try to exchange it under warranty. It is less than a year old.(LOL)

Maybe the OP should post a warning about AR17 unless someone else has got it to work successfully.

Tonight I am going to try to make the DTA available to the internet, but I doubt it will make a difference since it isn't requesting an IP address from the DHCP server.

rcilink : Sorry to hear that it killed your DTA310 with AR17. I have not tested the AR17 firmware on mine. Mostly because it talks of APS (automatic provisioning system) and it also talks of configuration locking. My fear was that they included the "locked" option in that firmware to be able to lock it to a provider and automatically provision it. I guess it is possible it is stuck someplace on that path.

Usually (DTA310) lights will all flash on/off during the firmware upgrade. Once complete, they all flash rapidly until you hit "restart application". Then the MSG light will turn on and flicker 'off' once and a while until the application is uncompressed into the flash. Then, it will flash all lights a couple of times and reset to normal mode (application). The AR16 firmware does not map the lights on the DTA310 correctly, so a DTA310 using AR16 will have NO lights lit when waiting for a call.

You might try conecting to your router to see if you are seeing the DHCP address request from the DTA310 device. It has been reported here that the AR16 firmware will cause the DTA310 to request a new IP address.. Possibly cuz it has a different MAC address prefix (to match the "LeadTek brand"). Anyhow, look for that IP address and try the old web browser to hit it and get in to the config.

If that does not work, you can try leaving it on and see if it is just stuck in APS or something to see if it will timeout.. ? The fact that it is letting you get into the reset options using the phone means it is not completely dead... don't give up just yet.

And as for your other question.. Yes, there are two other ways to reset the device. One is a JTAG port and the other is a HOST interface. Neither are documented or supported by any company unless you are in their developer program(s). Several companies have taken over development offerings where Netergy stopped offering it. (for example: ST Micro and Myson-century) Good luck on that avenue!

I flashed mine with the firmware from the product description page (AR17?). Apparently, I should have used the firmware from the sipphone download page(AR16?).

Now,

upon powerup, all I get is a steady, slow blinking message light.

I tried the reset method from the "Restore DTA310" link at the top of the forum. All that does is get me the blinking message light.

I tried the reset method where you let go of the reset button when the power light is flickering. It gets me the beeping prompt. If I enter 0#, I get the confirmation tone, it reboots, and I get the blinking message light again. If I enter an IP address (etc...), I get the confirmation tone, it reboots, and I get the blinking message light again. If I enter 1#, I don't get a confirmation tone (as if it treated the 1 as an IP address). Is it possible that there are any other commands that can be entered at this prompt?

I've tried the tool from sipphone to detect the device on the network and it detects nothing. If it has an IP address, I can't find it. According to the DHCP log, it didn't get an IP address from the router.

My question is, does anyone know of any other techniques to get (or trick) the DTA310 into downloader mode. Or as an alternative, does anyone know if there are any alternative tools out there to connect to the DTA310, such as through a serial/parallel port.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

SDHank8 : I picked up two DTA310s from EBay this past week and now have them both running the AR160 firmware. One is talking to FWD and the other to my BYOD Broadvoice account. I'm using the DTA310 to replace the hacked Belking ATA I was using. The Belkin unit was working fine, it just didn't put the current time in the caller-id unless a Date field was included in the SIP INVITE (which Broadvoice doesn't do). The DTA310/BVA8051 defaults to the current time.

Next step is to set up an Asterisk server and use all three ATAs to talk to it.

Man, I am so addicted.

If their SoftPhone offering allows you to configure your own SoftPhone (i.e. not use their own pre-configured software), then I assume you could take those SoftPhone settings to either configure an Asterisk server or simply your DTA-310 directly (w/ the AR16 firmware).

Since you can call TOLL FREE #s from FWD (i.e. 1-8xx #'s), you can use a calling card to call a standard (i.e. non-toll free) POTS number. Of course you'll have to obtain the calling card on your own and will likely involve a fee.

If you're simply seeking a way to make totally free POTS phone calls w/ your DTA-310, the services mentioned thus far I don't believe will be your solution. I can't imagine you'll find many services offering truly free POTS phone calls (i.e. of the ones that might, you'll likely find a catch associated w/ it). I am not familiar w/ any services which offer "free" POTS phone calls (thus, I pay for VoIP service).

It's my understanding though that you can use it as both a stand-alone platform (to create your own mini phone comapny usable by the sip phones connected to your server) or as one connected to the PSTN (public switched telephone network) via some commercial VoIP service(s) (such as VoicePulse open-access).

1) Please read through this entire thread. I know it's long, but you'll be much better educated at the end. The firmware you're seeking is located in several places in this very thread, starting with the INITIAL POST. At the bottom of that post is a link to web page containing numerous sip adapter firmware links (one of which is the AR16). On the second page of this thread, rcilink uploaded a copy of the actual firmware here and provided the link.

You can also call TOLL FREE NUMBERS in the USA, Great Britain, and several other countries. FWD also has peering relationships w/ many VoIP companies, so you can call (or be called from) many other VoIPs (including, in theory, Packet8). Anyway, the DTA-310 w/ ARO firmware works great w/ FWD.

BroadVoice is not free. It's a commercial VoIP service like Packet8, Vonage, AT&T CallVantage, etc. The benefit w/ BroadVoice is that they allow you to sign up for their service under a BYOD plan (BYOD = Bring Your Own Device). Under this plan, you pay perhaps a $10 activation fee but are then extempt from any contract commitments and/or cancellation fees. (I've never signed up for BroadVoice, so I don't necessarily know if the details I've just mentioned are 100% correct).

Stanaphone (which you inquired about in another thread) is free for INCOMING PHONE CALLS. I don't know if it has any free outgoing phone calls (to TOLL FREE #s for example the way FWD has). They offer discounted rates for outgoing calls though.

Unless you're talking about the BPA-410 (i.e. dual port adapter), I don't know how you'd be able to use a DTA-310 (single port adapter) on two services at the same time.

That said, the ARO firmware doesn't let you choose a SIP PORT above 9984. Packet8's current firmware is using SIP port 15062.

Stated another way: I've been unable to configure an ARO firmware'd DTA to work on Packet8 itself. ;)

Checked with spybot and ad-awareSE after testing for an hour. Sound is terrible and other person couldn't here me but put of that is my computer is still window98se and 128 ram and it is made for windows 2000 beyond.

Take all your info, ipaddress,gateway,netmask,dns server and take it out of dhcp and use fix. then use http and browse find on your computer where you have the 1111 firmware and and try to update it that way. Then if that works move up to the 12.35 firmware then do the same with the ar16 firmware. Make sure you rename the ar16.rom firmware to ar16.bin on you computer before you try to load it. Factory resetting puts the dta into 192.168.0.2 most time first till it finds the mac addy copy your lan info and put the dta in a fixed addy take it out of htcp.

Hilbe : I can't seem to get this sucker to work behind my router. I attempted factor resetting after both 1111 and 1235, no luck. Its always showing:

The only way I've ever gotten it to show "YES" is by disabling sending registration information. I have quadruple checked my password too...

goonierag : hilbe mine was the locked 12.34 but had all the fwd info in it already from weeks ago making the change with 1111. 12.34 is locked but what I did was downloaded ar16 to my computer. Went to where I downloaded it to, changed it from ar16.rom to ar16.bin. Went to my dta310 page and hit http browse button and found the bin one I made and loaded it from there, no problems loaded all the way. Then when hit the restart at the end the new page came up and all my fwd information was still there. Did find out you still have to unplug you dta and plug it back in or 1-800 numbers won't work, spent have the night finding that out cause ever other numbers worked.

I upgraded from 12.35 UNLOCKED (courtesy of rcilink).

Initially I used fwd.pulver.com (5060) in conjunction w/ the FWD STUN server; however, when I called my FWD acct from a P8 #, the P8 side audio did not transmit. I then switched to fwdnat.pulver.com (5082), and two-way audio worked.

Note: Be sure and turn on g711u in the CODECS settings to get FWD properly working.

goonierag : now that dta seems easy to work with other voips I wonder if will with myphonecompany. Only other company besides packet8 that has local West Virginia numbers. Vonage,voicepulse and other seem to be avoiding my state. Also they have a byod plan. Someone here had all the plans for it cost and all. don't call out much but would be nice to have a local and free incoming again.

when I tried fwd.pulver.com wouldn't log back into the dta, probably cause never set my stun server. not sure but working fine with fwdnat and 5082

as for contacting packet8 from fwd, read somewhere that no adapter with fwd can right now, someone try calling one of the other voips and see if it works with them.

PJIV : ok my Packet8 service is totally screwed since I can't flash my unit back, however I have it working with FWD. Now can someone enlighten me why I can't call my Packet8 line from FWD? All I get is a busy signal.

I can still access my Packet8 web portal and forward my Packet8 service to any number I want, call it from FWD and my problem is solved! But it's not working :(

PJIV : I can just use the web interface to forward my Packet8 to anywhere I want to call, and then I call my packet8 line. Works like a champ!

However if someone give me a server and port for Packet8 I'll try it and see if I can get it to work, since I'm a paying customer I should pass the MAC reg request.

Since FWD can call 800 numbers, and you have FWD working, you can just use FWD to connect to virtually any 800 number based "phone card" (and then enter that card's "pin", and the number you want to connect to). goonierag : thanks Rizzo finally figured that out last night also seem you have to use fwdnat.pulver.com and 5082 or will not boot back in. Probably peeps problem with the fast busy and not working I read about. Also peeps when you put in you dialplan if you put this before it you do't have to hit the * before the number. And don't think case some things work you don't have to reset the dta. Make sure you always do a reset after saving.

If you haven't done so already, after changing your dialplan you need to RESET your DTA. If you don't know how to do so via the web-interface, you can manually reset it by unplugging the power cable and plugging it back in.

Erase your dialplan and replace as this (nothing else in there):

*1xxxxxxxxxx|x.T|x.#

the x.T should accept 5-digit numbers. Also, the *1800 number should work (dont forget the * )

Any idea about the dial plan from fwd to call broadvoice using **282 broadvoice number?

The dialplan in the AR16O firmware is actually effective. It reads it and if you left the default of XXXXXXX|1XXXXXXXXXX|...etc it will see the seven X's and stop after you dial the 7th digit (it matches).
As someone posted earlier in this thread... for FWD use, you need to change your dialplan to be:

*1xxxxxxxxxx|x.T|x.#

goonierag : All my information I had in dta firmware 34 was still in the ar16 firmware for fwd,even my packet8 dialplan. When restarted everything still wooked fine for people calling my ipkall number and now could call out to fwd. But still can call tollfree 1-800 and 1-888 numbers. If get that to work can use phonecard if I need to call someone. Any clue why I get the fast busy signal when try 1-888/1800 numbers. tried a few different dialplans. And useing the #1800. goonierag

Anyways never had to change anything just downloaded the ar16 firmware renamed the rom file to bin file. went to my dta setup page and went into downloader from where I left it on my computer. Well after the ar16 firmware was put in the dta and hit restart dta it reloaded the now page and everything that was in the dta sip page all the stuff about fwd,my number and password and all was still there. with the packet8 dialplan everythink worked same except now could dial #613 and do the echo test fine and used my regular phone and call my ipcall number and worked fine.problme now is I still can't make 1800/1877 numbers to use phonecards with it or call toll free numbers. Used packet8 dialplan and this one and still get fast busy. xxx|xxxxx|*1xxxxxxxxxx|x.T|x.# have th 1/2 penny a minute phonecards in my town so if get that part working got a good working dta.

wallaby : Still working great with BroadVoice. Lost WAN connection for a few minutes this morning and Phone light blinks bright when WAN is out. Call quality with AR160 still tops! For those having trouble, would suggest setting a static ip prior to swaping firmware, much easier to tap back into!

The flash part is not the hard part.. Getting the settings to be correct for use with Packet8 is where the fun would begin.

I guess you should be able to load 12.35 firmware into the DTA310 and "clean up" all the settings to make them point at packet8.net. They dont use the "username / password / phone number" fields, so clear them all out. Put your dialplan back (even though it never worked right!) and set your CODECS to 729 and 711(defaulted).

Once all that is done, upgrade to 13.10 or 13.12 and it should fix the domain/sip server for you.. Someone want to try it? If you try this on a non-subscribed DTA, it should give you a dialtone. If you dial a number, it will prompt for the 10-digit password to "register" the DTA to an account with packet8. If you try this on a subscribed DTA, it should just work (it already has your MAC address registered to your account, so no need to put in the 10 digit code again).

[disclaimer: I did not try the above.. just speculating on the outcome of the above described actions.]

webtechy : Downloader mode is usually all the four lights flashing with the link light staying seemingly solid.

Anyone know where to get DTA's for really cheap? Prices seem to be going up kinda high on fleabay. Don't want to do anything with a rebate since its with -New Rochelle, NY.

When I try to upload firmware, it just fails.
If I use packet8 updater, it reports error "Failed to send upgrade command to DTA".

Once a "download" of new firmware is complete and you click the "RESTART MAIN APPLICATION" button, you will notice the "MSG" light on (mostly steady, but not solid). It is unpacking the rom file and placing it in flash for use.
Once the MSG light goes out, it does a full RESET and starts the application software.

Note that the LeadTek Firmware when used on the DTA310 (the white one) will have different meanings for the lights..
So-far, I have seen that the "power" light flickers once-in-a-while (not sure if this is telling me about the status of my SIP registration or something else... anyone? ). The "Link" light seems to reflect the Ethernet traffic passing the LAN port on the back. My device is on a HUB (sniffing purposes) and it matches the LAN traffic on the hub. The "Phone" Light matches the Phone use (on=off-hook). I have not yet gotten the MSG light to light. Hoping it is truely gonna work to notify MSG waiting...

Here's part of one of the DOCs on sipphone.com/download ara:

To (possibly) recover from a bad application and put your device back into downloader mode, do the following:

1. hook a phone into the 'phone' jack on your DTA310. Take the phone "off-hook" so you will be able to hear audio.
2. find a nice paperclip or something you can comfortably hit the reset button with.
3. Press and HOLD the reset button in the "pushed-in" position.
4. Remove POWER cable from DTA310.
5. Insert POWER cable back into DTA310.
6. Once you see the RED "power" light begin to flash, RELEASE the reset button. You should hear beeps thru the phone.
7. To tell the device to use DHCP, press 0 # on your phone. You will hear a confirmation tone.
8. Hangup the phone. The DTA310 will try to: reset, get DHCP addr, and go into Downloader mode.

if that works, you can then use a browser to upload a new copy of firmware into the device.

The DOCS ("Call In One Quick Guide" PDF ) had more info on this procedure. For example, you can program in an IP address if you want a fixed address by using this procedure and different numbers on your phone. (read the doc first so you dont screw it up more!)

Worst-case, the old and seriously busted DTA310 devices make excellent door-stoppers. The rubber feet keep the thing from sliding and can handle most light-weight doors without a problem :) There is another way to reload these, but it requires a "SLIC" host interface cable to connecto your DTA310 to the parallel port of your PC. Not likely that you will find this on ebay or at the flea market...

reebok : that was the first thing I checked before I searched for reset methods. I can see the lights on the router, so the connection is there, but the lights never blink, not even initially, so apparently no data is being passed.

gbh2o : reebok, you might want to search to find the correct IP address. Whenever I download the LeadTek firmware, for some reason it pulls a new address from the DHCP server. That had me baffled for a while when I first started. I thought I'd killed mine too. So you might want to check your active lease list for your DHCP server ;-)

reebok : whoops, fried my old one (user error) the message light blinks and that's all. can't access it.
I read the docs at sipphone.com, searched here and google to no avail. the reset does the "blinking lights in succession" but it always reverts to a constantly blinking message indicator light.

I don't believe this is a dialplan issue. I cannot currently call P8 numbers from FWD using the XTen softphone. This functionality worked for me perhaps a year ago, but a few days ago I tried it again and it didn't work. I can't call Vonage #s from FWD either. Thus, I believe the inability to call certain VoIPs from FWD is in fact a FWD issue.

gbh2o : Don't give up wkendrvr! Try again and make sure you have all the necessary settings changed [especially an appropriate dial plan setting], and that you save them, and do a reset before trying to dial. I have now done five of the _old_ DTAs and they work nicely with Stanaphone and FWD.

My DTAs were originally used on the P8 centralized system, and were not even originally loaded with SIP firmware. They are really quite forgiving about being botched on the downloads, and can be coaxed back to life ;-)

I haven't figured out how to call Packet8 from FWD yet [probably need a dial plan revision], but P8 to FWD works OK.
