anon : Its the VOD, people... verizon is banking on the the some flavor of VOD will be a viable service, ie massive video 'rentals' for a service fee (ie easier than scouring the vast internet for the copyright violation versions at poorer quality) The cablecompanies hope to move into a more interactive vod with a broadband connection for viewing and server based storage-streaming which is closer to what people want rather than channel based vod (shows on a particular cable channel, ie soproanos for hbo, etc...)

This will cause some consolidation on various premium channels by causing people to think if they really wanna buy so many movie 'broadcast channels' or pay less than 1/3 the price of all you can eat streaming vod, stored remotely on server "storage farms" available 24/7 on your schedule, no the broadcast companies. These channels will have to compete for those dollars, who knows maybe some relaity tv on those channels too, hahahahahhaa!!
