Re: A new reality show Re: A new reality show
I have little sympathy for people whose PC's are clogged with junkware.
Keeping this crap off your machine isn't rocket science. Here are some tips, not neccessarily in order of importance.
1. Don't click "OK" on anything and everything that pops up in IE. Older folks with maybe failing eyesight/or may take the pop-up at its word that.Hey this maybe something important i need.Who just do basic browsing and emailing 2. Learn the difference between an actual windows dialog box and a IE pop-up that tries to look like an dialog box. See answer above,Especially when it flashes buy.Not giving one time to read or realize its harmful content 3. Don't install any browser toolbars except Yahoo and Google. Best advice one can give or heed 4. Don't install anything that promise to help you find porn, warez, or good prices. If it sounds to good to be true it probably is 5. Actually read what you are agreeing to when you install crap like Bonzi Buddy, Morpheus, Kazaa, BearShare, etc. Aw people love that cute little bonzi buddy, its so cute it talks with you.Its a POS 6. Learn to love Firefox. Only use IE when you have to. pretty hard to do when said people click on everthing in sight unknowning the dangers involved nor the risk factor 7. Get a decent firewall, or better yet a hardware firewall/router. Block all the ports you don't need. Thats a must have feature for people with broadband.Best advice that can be given/followed 8. If you are too lazy to check for windows updates, then turn on auto-update to do it for you. If people actually bothered to update their machines correctly a lot of worms/bugs/trojans/viri wouldn't become nearly so widespread. That cannot be stressed enough. However the main point of this thread is the underhanded sneaky, highly mistrustful techinecs the shiteware companies, prowling the seedier underbelly of the web go through to do a black bag hatchet job on ones computer 9. Get a good virus checker. Keep is updated. Actually scan you email attachments. Don't open attachments you were not expecting. this malware affects dial up users as well. However thats good advice to follow as well 10. Don't be an idiot and fall for phishing scams. Unfortunatly the bad guys are getting more ambitious and clever it their attempts to scam 11. Get a GOOD Spyware checker and keep it updated. Run it at least once a week. NOW we get to the main point. When AV companies are getting into bed with these scumware makers,And are pulling the terms of definitions and what defines this F'ing junk what chance does the basic web surfer have? When this is getting under the skin of the resident experts here at Dslreports already with there transgressions. How or who can be trusted.? Certainly not these moralless scumbags 12. Learn at least the basics of how files, directories, programs, and shortcuts work. What the heck does this have to do with shitware/malware. etc.etc.etc ? And most importantly, stop thinking your PC is an appliance. It's a complicated device that was designed for compatability first, ease of use second, and security third.
How complicated do you find this device.? the only thing that maybe complicated is the amount of code Windows loads at boot.Seriously I fail to see whats so complicated about it.Not as you state it was designed for ease of use.Security is made numero uno above all else do to the spyware companies underhanded tactics. If first time or new users can get on the web.Unknowling get infected.I will willingly instruct them of safe hex.Instruct them of how to keep the pc clean,And what to avoid and what to do if the contact some form of HTD (Hexually Transmitted Dickware) |
