At least crack dealers have a real product people want and have to worry about their reputation if they want to keep their customers! yea, but last I checked we go after crack dealers more than we do spammers. It's kind of like we will spend over 4k catching a crack dealer but spend less in catching spammers and they are the ones raking in bigger bucks.
Sorry about the price clarification, if he was spending 50k a day on internet access, and still pulled in 750k then we still (as a whole internet public) still look kind of dumb letting it go this long.
I am not starting a flame war or anything but you just have to imagine what brains it took to think this up. It takes more than a crack dealer comes up with.

Ashburn, VA | You must remember that this $50K was going to an ISP. A major problem with SPAM is a lack of interest by the ISP's to effectively curb it.
"Hey! This person that is giving us $50,000 per month might be illegally using our service. We should..uh..do..something..about it." As they whistle and roll their eyes skyward.
It took an act of Congress to light a fire under some butts to make anything happen. Although, the Acts that were imposed are almost making things worse than before. |

| There are ISP's out there that do not accept business from spammers. Sure the bigger ones tend to look the other way, but not all ISP businesses out there enjoy a fat check from unscrupulous businesses. |

Seriously though, this guy was scamming people. Money is tight these days for all but about 2% of the population. Who knows what this guy was selling and to whom, but I can't help but think that if the guy was sentenced to 9 years, the implication is there that his actions had a significant impact upon his victims. With prison overcrowding these days, most manslaughter sentences are less than 9 years. If the guy had that much money, you would think that he could have afforded lawyers that were good enough to get him sent to Danbury for a 6 month vacation, unless the impact of his actions were quite severe.
