| Oh, lets not forget the book and movie deals. Nobody is gonna doubt him as an anti-spam expert when he get's out if he want's to do that! Lots of notoriety just like that guy who hacked a bunch of corporations way back and went to prison. Now he has his own security company. Can't remember his name but he's practically a legend among legit hacker circles.

Hacker is Kevin Mitnick and I've read his book: "The Art of Deception". Really good book and I've tried some of his examples in the book, which actually have worked for me. Social Engineering is way easier then trying to exploit a linux box, in my opinion. Hell of a lot faster.
For the spammer, 9 years seems way harsh to me. I think just taking away the money and a little Jail time for first offense would of done justice, but also 750K, good lord, I hope he writes a book in Jail. |
