Re: [DNS] 04-2005 Connection Problems - Discussion

I called comcast a week ago and couldn't even get to the internet division. So I called disconnect. My account was credited 45 bucks within one minute. I pay for the use of their DNS service. I shouldn't have to use someone else's. I told them that if my account wasn't credited I wanted everything turned off. And I wasn't joking either. I pay way to much money to have crappy service...tower

I had the 4.2.2.1 as a static DNS lookup for some time loaded into the linksys router. Yesterday, I could not access our personal website. After a lot of troubleshooting I fixed it by deleting the 4.2.2.1 DNS server and let the router get the DNS server automatically.

Is this related to the failures of the Comcast DNS servers?

Since you say you are now using Comcast DNS servers and, apparently, that is working for you and since 4.2.2.1 is not a Comcast DNS server, I would have to say the problem is totally unrelated to Comcast, period.

I switched over last week to the 4.2.2.1/2 DNS servers, and things have gone OK--except for outages.

I was out of town all week.....and after reading the messages....is it all over?

Should I click the "Obtain DNS automatically", and go with what Comcast serves me?

Located southeast of Denver,CO.

Speed (4000/350) and internet seems OK.......so was just asking for those of us who don't stay up on this issue--hourly.

Thanks,

Stan

As a national issue, judging from the fact the furor seems to have subsided, my best guess would be "yes." YMMV. Only you can determine if it is over for you and the only way I know for you to do that is to switch back to the Comcast DNS servers by configuring your equipment to obtain DNS automatically.

It doesn't take much time to switch, find out if it's working for you. If not, it doesn't take much time to switch back.
