hmm.....

I still don't understand why not to run DNS server through Load balancers. Cluster DNS servers and forward block of IP's to one of lets eight servers. That way for times when server is going out just take it out of rotation without having customers forced into swapping IP's. It would add a bit of response time, but really boost redundancy. Correct me if I am wrong....

they should but for two things

1) folks on here actually know what tehy're doing
2) folks here wont work for 9$CAN an hour
3) the 3rd party call centers will miss out on their fat cheques for inferior service.

I'm just glad the techs aren't from India yet. I now will not call into Windows XP support as the Orem, UT Convergys site was shut down because the India techs are so much cheaper.

They are on load balancers, the official message from the NOC is "Unable to resolve DNS, high CPU on Loas Balancers".

Good ISPs already do do that. Hell, even a lot of crappy ones do, too.

People in call centers have NO control over how the DNS servers function. It doesn't matter if they work from Canada for $10 an hour or the USA or India. No. Control. And their level of service has no impact on the technical end of Comcasts service. So I don't really see your point.

You haven't a clue what is going on.....and FYI you think their a bunch of amateurs. You try handling a denial of service attack, and try coming out untarnished.

I believe that is what they have, two clusters.

Both clusters went down.

Now THIS is the funniest thing I have heard all day!

There are a couple of people that know what they are doing.. want to identify them? They are not the blood-hungry, over-zealous, over-reaching, over-expecting perfectionist complainers here that seem to spend their entire life on this board posting their hate messages about service providers that don't give them 1001% uptime and complete error free!

How many of you work at an office with a network? How many times does it experience issues? Do you ever have downtime? How much more complex in a nationwide network thatn you little home networks with two computers, a router and a broadband modem?

Some people here forget a few things...

1) Broadband is still rather new.

2) You DO have internet access choices.. remember dialup?

3) No one said that broadband was a "right"

4) Everything can have problems

5) I wish I was only as perfect as some people here think they are. (And the fact that you pay even $1 for something doesn't mean it won't have problems. How many people pay $20k + for a car and experience problems from time to time?)

6) Consumers are demanding new technology all the time. These problems are all part of a growing experience.

7)The reason I am on a cable modem is because I was tired of the ever-so frequent Qwest DSL outtages that I experienced, some lasting 4 days at a time. Anyone is Qwest/US West areas will know what I am talking about.

8) I have learned that if braodband is SOOOOO important to me, I have a backup and yes, I pay for it!

9) Home/consumer broandband, or ANY internet connection is still only offered on an "as-available" basis.. They don't hide it - it's in your TOS... not to mention it's the nature of a global network.

10) Just a few years ago, the average cost of broadband was still about $80 a month. The "good" internet still costs that much. What you are paying for is less and what you are going to get is what you pay for. Just because one wants it to be cheaper doesn't mean it will happen.

11) If you life depends THIS MUCH on the internet, then maybe it SHOULD be classifies as a utility and under government regulation.. and we all know what happens with the big gov comes in and mucks things up right? There is a reason why the internet is not regulated, yet.. BECAUSE IT'S NOT A LIFELINE SERVICE YET! It's still an informational service at best right now. Just a few years ago people were able to figure out how to get their checking balances by phone, in person, or at an ATM machine, read the news in a paper or on one of the dozen cable/sat news channels, and god forbid if you can't play an online game for a solid 12 hours a day, you might actually be a productive member of society again! (and yes, believe me, our government leaders DO worry about this one)

Many people here want companies to not only operate in the negative to keep prices low, they want them out of business because another will save the day. What happens when even the second of the two evils goes out of business because they "loose the battle?" You think the winner of the battle will behave?

People, step back and think about what you complain about everyday. Look at other countries and what they have. Many of you here don't know how good things here really are. I ivinte you to look at what other countries have for broadband. Some of them five you 1.5mb braodband for up to the first 1gb of transfer and then it trottles you down to 56K for the rest of the month - FOR $40 a month!

Also, if the people here have the knowledge and know-how to operate a large nation-wide network with perfection, then why do they go off daily (I am sure for many here) to their NON-TECHNIAL JOBS selling homes, or cars, or working in their retail based job instead of being in the tech field? and for those that ARE in the tech field, I am sure many of the people here are at tier 1 positions acting like they know it all bashing their very own technical piers about THEIR support methods. AND, if everyone here is so-technially inclines, then when DNS goes down, as it has for comcast twice, then why are they still here bitching about it? Why are you not just switching you dns settings and moving on!

Don't expect the internet to EVER be error free, EVER!

Now, please go on and call me names and bash me - I expect it because I am aware that many people can't handle the truth! The ones that this message applies to, I am sure, will be the first in line! Those that this does not apply to will be sitting in their chairs laughing and applauding me!

Amazing, someone with a thought that doesnt fill his ego. someone witha conception that isnt self associated and angry. someone with the promise of an intellect that isnt read off of a blog and reposted to ensure his acceptance into the flame because his miniscule meaningless life in reality is so bad that they live and the 30 sec downtime he had from switching servers for dns ruined his WoW game. ridiculous.
