I'll throw in my .03 CDN. Routers are typically used by more advanced computer users. FTP's are normally run more more advanced computer users.

I've had a site that was easy to run and maintain for 2 years, but as soon as I added my router it became a pain.

Like some of the other posts port 21 is not an option. I don't want to be flooded by kids trying to get in (which I was for the few weeks I used that port right after getting @home service)

Adding the functionality to the firmware would move it up to the level of the actual hardware.
