WRT54GS: Hardware Version?

How can I find out what "hardware" version my WRT54GS router is?
IE: v1, v2, v3, v4.... (I really have no idea how many versions there are in all actuality. )

The BOX... said nothing by the bar code sticker. When I purchased my BEFSX41... I knew it was a v2 because it stated it on the box in very tiny print: BEFSX41-CA-v2.

This one only says: WRT54GS

Plus I see no version number listed on the actual router itself. Nothing on the bottom either?

I believe you can tell by the Serial #, which is listed on the bottom of the router.

From this guide:

»www.wrt54g.com/pages.php ··· _version

CGN0 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0
CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1
CGN3 = WRT54GS v1.1

Good info!

I'll check back when I have access to the router to report what version I have.

Mine has the version number printed on the label in the upper left area underneath the unit.

There now seems to be two hardware versions sold: V1.1 and V2.0.

Can anyone confirm this, and if so, describe what the hardware differences are between the two versions? (I'm assuming this is not just a firmware issue.)

If there are differences, does it make sense to hunt for a V2 to buy, rather than a V1.1?

Thanks!

I'm assuming you're talking about v1.0 and 1.1 (i've personally never seen 2.0 yet).

Anyways this information has been posted before but here it is again:

Known serial numbers (first 4 characters) vs versions / Chipsets:

WRT54G
CDF0 = WRT54G v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
CDF1 = WRT54G v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
CDF2 = WRT54G v1.1 / ADM6996L Chipset
CDF3 = WRT54G v1.1 / ADM6996L Chipset
CDF5 = WRT54G v2.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
CDF7 = WRT54G v2.2 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
CDF8 = WRT54G v3.0 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset

WRT54GS
CGN0 = WRT54GS v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
CGN1 = WRT54GS v1.0 / ADM6996L Chipset
CGN2 = WRT54GS v1.1 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset
CGN3 = WRT54GS v2.0 / BCM5325EKQM Chipset

Thanks for all the good info. Seems like I have a WRT54GS V1.1, model CGN2. Of course this makes me wonder how a CGN3 is different

It also seems that, from a bunch of research, that while there is a V2 of the WRT54, the latest model number of the WRT54GS is V1.1.

afaik the difference is the leds and switch behind the cisco logo.

Hummm, so a GS V2 DOES exist? Sure is hard to find out differences! (Even Cisco is mum.)

Are the LEDs and any other changes under the hood of any significance?

Personally, I have a WRT54GS v.2, so it does exist.

I just bought a new GS router that starts with CGN4 and is listed as Version 2.1 on the bottom of the router.

I'm afraid of bricking it by flashing HyperWRT firmware. Any know if's safe/compatible?

I flashed the 2.1b1 HyperWRT firmware this morning after my post above. It works with the 2.1 version of the speedbooster model.
