stefanlamble : Thanks a lot, I haven't yet received the splitter/filter and modem from the isp yet. Should have it soon but my line is now failing. I know Eircom (they run the network here) use much more stringent tests than BT. My isp is BT but they can't touch the lines here and Eircom just won't repair lines that fail.
I have already replaced this cable but now I'm having serious doubts. What is the recommended cabling to use?? (its from the terminal to the master socket)
I'm gonna wait for the modem etc and test it out. If it won't sync I need some ideas as to what the correct cable would be??
Also, I have a sky minidish close to the line (2metres) and I'm wondering if this could cause interference? (I am thinking of having it moved anyway)
Cheers,
Stefan

pablo0078 : Hi,

A few things ----

I take it your in Southern Ireland?
Who is your ISP and do they supply filters that connect
to your existing box ( From how you desribe it you have
an RJ11 connection)Could you plug this in? »www.compusa.com/products/product···p=BROWSE. But I'm sure the isp supply
what ever adaptor is required, these do koads of different ones »www.clarity.it/telecoms/adsl_hardware.htm

Finally, the phone lines run on 2 wires,so if you were to replace anything just keep the same colors connected,eg white and white and orange and blue(Don't think the *Silver* wire would make any difference)

But before you change anything, check why your line is failing, it could be the length of the line, come back if you require any further info.

P
--
To have intelligence is one thing, to be intelligent is a gift.

stefanlamble : Hi there,
I have posted here because this seems like the most relevant forum. I am in Ireland and have been having a lot of problems with line test failure. Due to some obvious mishap on the isps website my line came back as passed and I immediately ordered adsl. The next day I went back and my line was failing again.
I did as much research as i could and had a look at my setup at home.
The telephone cable hits my house and is run, parallel to some electrical wires (this is bad i know) and comes into a small black bakelite box. There are 2 pairs of wires coming in orange, white, green and red. the orange and white wires are connected to the box, the green and red are connected to nothing. There is then blue and blue/white silver cables running to the socket and hoooked to points 4(L1) and 3(L2).
i know that the silver wire is a big no-no when it comes to adsl and so I purchased some copper wire from a wholesaler..
What I want to do is run the copper wire from the box to the socket but there are 6 seperate wires. Black, green, white, red, yellow and blue. I am unsure which is which and where to hook them up. Also in the box there is only 2 connections in and 2 out.(orange and white in and then the two wires out).
I contacted the telephone company about getting a proper 21c terminal box installed but they werent very forthcoming (i dont have a fault apparently).

Would adsl run on just 2 wires with a filter allowing phone also?
is it possible to purchase these 21C boxes and if so how hard are they to self install? which four wires correspond to the 4 that come in or does it matter?
Thank you in advance,
Stefan
