XoftSpy Didn't Register the Domain Hijack-this.net We would like to clarify the issue of the use of offshoot domains such as hijack-this.net. XoftSpy DID NOT register the domain name hijack-this.net. ParetoLogic does not condone the use of offshoot domain names in selling XoftSpy and have terminated affiliates who have used such domain names. We were unaware of this particular affiliate using the domain name hijack-this.net to sell XoftSpy. After being informed by Mr. Howes of the situation we contacted the individual and had him remove our product from his site immediately. Thank you. Elton ParetoLogic Inc |

Thank you for the follow up. I see the site is now selling AlertSpy, which is on the Rogue Anti-Spyware Programs list.

(sigh) Yes, that's usually what happens. Dodgy affiliates booted from one or more other programs inevitably migrate either to AlertSpy or PAL Spyware Remover.
And so the endless game of whack-a-mole continues.

BPremium,MVM join:2000-10-28 | Do you see this problem going away as MS more widely advertises (and releases) its AntiSpyware and drives most of the good and bad AS vendors out of business?
If, for example, MS AntiSpyware is installed by Automatic Updates, and/or in the next SP, and/or in the next version of Windows, then I would think there would be far fewer of these victims going forward (since they'd no longer bother searching for antispyware apps).

That's my hope, but it's hard to say just what will happen.

 | reply to SpannerITWks I just want to thank you guys for having this information available.....I was one of the Mrs average www users who was sent to HiJack-This.net...but fortunately continued to research before downloading anything (I'm a very suspicious type when it comes to downloads).
On the note of more big media coverage.....I am the Publisher of a newspaper.....FAR from big, but I figure every little bit helps. My newspaper is a small community newspaper (5,000 copies every two weeks) in Southern Alberta and I would very much like to offer articles regarding this kind of information. So if there is anyone on here who would like to make some submissions please let me know. You can visit my website at »gatewaygazette.ca. Unfortunately, because we are smaller we can't offer any payment for articles, however, if you have a website that would benefit from some extra exposure it could certainly be included in your by-line.
Thanks again guys! Tanya |
