SnappyDSL through an RT?

I currently have Bellsouth Extreme (3000/384) service and I'm considering other ISPs now that my contract will soon be up. I'm more or less happy with Bellsouth, but I like having options!

I'm fed from an RT that's a few blocks away. The CO is about 30,000 feet away, and I'm wondering if SnappyDSL can provide DSL service from an RT, the way Bellsouth can.

I heard that sometimes other ISPs can't get access to the local CLECs RTs, but they CAN get access to the CO. If Snappy can only access the CO, I'm screwed becaue 30,000 feet is way too far for DSL.

So, do I have a chance?

Thanks!

Snappy is a Bellsouth partner ISP, and therefore should have no problem getting you hooked up via RT.

It's not that other ISPs can't get access to RTs, it's that other CLECs (and their ISPs) can't get access. And it's probably not can't either. It's probably the cost is so high that they would lose on the deal.

Wow, that is certainly great news.

Does this also mean that Snappy uses the Bellsouth DSLAM, so I can keep using my Bellsouth-branded Westell if I move to Snappy?

Yes, Snappy being a Bellsouth partner ISP uses Bellsouth DSLAMs and the Bellsouth ATM network.

Yes, your modem will work.

SnappyDSL is exactly the same as Bellsouth except when it comes to IP space, transit, and user services. Meaning the entire infrastructure used to reach SnappyDSL's equipment is exactly the same as Bellsouth's, but once you hit Snappy's equipment the similiarity ends. You'll probably benefit from a switch to Snappy thanks to their being in NOTA (nap of the americas) and the amount of routes being down there allows. Plus the newsgroup access is better and overall stability is much better.

Of course my 'overview' may be a bit simplistic, but you get the idea.
