Graft war still on

Anti-corruption:

The Government’s crackdown on corruption stems from the Prime Minister’s quest for a clean administration and is not a move meant to boost his image. Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he would not take the populist approach in making more arrests just so that he would be seen as doing something about graft.

“All the commission members, including myself, are satisfied with the outcome of the findings and we can only hope it will meet its aim.

Call to relocate Bangsar hawkers

Halim Saad

Apr 30:
KUALA LUMPUR:
The Bangsar Business Council is appealing to City Hall to be strict in dealing with street hawkers along Jalan Telawi Dua.

Council president Ronald Quay said Bangsar would be a nicer place if the hawkers moved to a nearby clean food court which provides the amenities.

“We would like to see Bangsar as a vibrant and clean environment which provides hygienic food centres,” said Quay at a dinner for Press members and Bangsar business operators last night.

Jolly Green Giant food court manager Tan Joo Kai said there are 23 vacant stalls waiting to be taken up by the hawkers.

Currently, there are 18 operators at the RM4 million food court since it was reopened last year.

Re: [OT] CAFE SEABB...The Thread for One & All Part 2

just been to borders bookstore yesterday. yes, they have cd, dvd, and vcd sections in the times square branch, but it isnt all that big or great.

i think the best comparison is between kinokuniya at klcc and borders. from what i see, both have roughly equal amount of books, but caters for different markets. borders have some sections that kino doesnt have, and vice versa.

example is like kino got a big catering for paperback comics and artbooks, whereas borders only have a small section for that. in retrospect, borders got a large histroy section that kino lacks.

SHORTAGE OF NEUROSURGEONS
Patients face deadly wait

M. Husairy Othman, Koh Lay Chin and Mimi Syed Yusof

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 30:
Every minute counts with head or spinal injuries, but a shortage of neurosurgeons in government hospitals means some patients face a deadly wait.

Some patients had died and others suffered permanent injury while waiting for treatment, said medical sources.

Surgeons in government hospitals were on call almost every day of the year, and overwork and stress were taking a heavy toll on them, the sources said.

This situation may worsen, they say. Two of the 10 neurosurgeons in public service are on the verge of quitting to enter private practice.

With neurosurgery available in only six government hospitals, some urgent cases such as accident victims with head and spinal trauma now travel for hours for treatment.

Operations for other patients, such as those with tumours and neurological disease, are sometimes scheduled weeks, if not months, away.

These delays have resulted in deaths, particularly in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital neurosurgical unit.

Health: Common ailment that’s not openly discussed

Mary Chen

May 1:
Faecal incontinence is a problem that strikes many people, but many sufferers do not seek early treatment, writes MARY CHEN.

MOTHERHOOD can change a woman in many ways. For some women, one of the physical outcomes is incontinence, which is the inability to control the excretion of urine or the contents of the bowel.

Women with faecal incontinence cannot control their bowel movements properly, causing occasional leaks of stool while passing gas, to a complete loss of bowel control in severe cases.

According to colorectal surgeon, Dr Ian Finlay, faecal incontinence is extremely common in women and is always due to childbirth.

This is because birth delivery practices like an episiotomy or using forceps may damage the anal sphincters, which are rings of muscle at the end of the rectum that help you hold in the solid waste. Nerves controlling the muscles damaged in the process may also result in this condition.

Cendol Not Safe For Consumption

KOTA BAHARU, May 2 - The Kelantan Health Department has advised the consumers not to apply cendol into their drinks and food as it is unsafe for consumption.

Tests by the department on samples of the cendol showed that it contained "Salmonella", a type of bacteria which causes typhoid.

The Department has also ordered two main cendol processing centres here to be closed temporarily as the product was found to be contaminated.

State Health director Datuk Dr Ahmad Razin Ahmad Mahir said the operators of the two centres had been given two weeks to clean up their premises.

He also advised the public not to use block ice in the preparation of drinks and to be more hygienic to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

At a Press conference on the typhoid situation in Kelantan, he said 279 people, including 90 confirmed cases, were still being treated at several hospitals in the State.

Since the outbreak on April 13, the Department has checked 720 premises and ordered 453 of them to be close temporarily as they were not hygienic.

The department also conducted tests on 793 food samples and found some of them contaminated with the salmonella typhi bacteria.

The contaminated samples included those taken from cendol drinks and other foodstuffs, including rice.

Government Will Consider 13-Month Salary

PETALING JAYA, May 2 - The Government will consider a 13-month salary for its employees if they agree to be paid on a daily basis, Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn.

He said the government had long adopted the monthly salary system, similar to that of the private sector.

Speaking to reporters after closing an exhibition on "Books and Lifelong Learning" at a shopping complex here, Fong said the system was also used in the United States and United Kingdom.

He said daily wages used to be given to the workers in some sectors, such as in the plantation.

Sunday, Cuepacs President Nordin Abdul Hamid had urged the Government to pay civil servants a 13-month salary because they worked 52 weeks a year.

Yup, that answer is logical and fair....wanna count by days, then be paid by days, not month...:)
As always, life-related stuff is always a matter of choice, right?
Sorry for supporting the HR Minister but he got a point there.

wonder what is cendol made from? better stay away ice-kacang also or ABC

I don't quite understand the meaning of 'worked 52 weeks a year'.
Lots of holiday and alternate saturday off don't take into the count?

i think the logic behind the 13th month is that:

52 weeks / 4weeks(1month) = 13 months

so for any employer to give u a monthly salary, u earn less from the person that gets a weekly salary.

personally, i feel that these recent salary raise and benefits increment is aimed toward increasing the image of working in the govt. they are having shortages of expertise in many areas.

it is a bit try to pick a bone from an egg.

Nowadays, most employer either implement daily wages system or monthly wages, seldom people use weekly wages system, too troublesome. I might be wrong.

Ya, right.
2 should be good for a new team in the first year. Furthermore, the average age of the team is only 26. With the young age of Robben, Cech, Terry, Lampard, Duff, Gallas, the still have a bright future ahead.

Anyway, I do think they should buy 1 more striker to replace the inefficient Drogba. Look at how many chances he wasted and offside he caused for the past few months. It seems to me, they have to supply 10 perfect balls to him, he can only score for 2-3 goals.

Drogba is ok he does still score goals just not fully fit into English game yet. Players like Drogba are strong and build to withstand in battle against strong defenders.

However they should dump Kezman who did almost nothing whole season. Kezman scored even less than Drogba. You seen him play in this match very poorly indeed.
