Re: [OT] CAFE SEABB...The Thread for One & All Par MyKad: Payment Imposed Will Be Lesser Than RM50
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The public are advised not to pay up to RM50 as reported to get waiting numbers for MyKad application, as the payment imposed after Dec 31 will be much cheaper.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid said that based on media reports, it was found that there were individuals, in a bid to meet the deadline at the eleventh hour, were willing to fork out such amount of money to get earlier waiting numbers at the National Registration Department (NRD) counters.
"I would like to advise them not to rush. Why do you need to pay up to RM50 to get the waiting number since the application fee for the change to Mykad will be lesser than RM50," he said in a statement here Friday.
He described as incorrect media reports which said that those who did not change their old identity cards to MyKad would be fined.
On the other hand, Azmi said that applicants would have to pay a fee to change their old identity cards to MyKad, with the sum to be announced later, and this is not a fine.
He also described as inaccurate a newspaper report that the government would announce next week on whether or not the old identity card would be valid.
"This report is incorrect but what is right is that the old identity card will still be valid for use until a date to be announced later," he said.

Relief for Shah Alam dog owners By NAJMUDDIN NAJIB
Shah Alam, Dec 31: Dog owners here can heave a sigh of relief, albeit temporarily, after the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) announced that enforcement action on those who fail to comply with its new ruling will only be taken after its committee meeting on Jan 9.
MBSA deputy mayor Zaba Che Rus said the council is still willing to review the new rules governing dog-ownership.
A special committee will meet next month to discuss the matter further. There is no need for dog owners to press the panic button just yet, he said.
The committee is made up of council members, Veterinary Department officers, the police as well as representatives of the Malaysian Association for Responsible Pet Ownership (MARPO).
Zaba refuted dog owners claims that more than 1,000 canines will be affected by the new ruling.
He said the new ruling reflects MBSAs policy that prevention is better than cure.
The local council is always the first to be blamed whenever there are cases of dogs attacking humans. Although dog owners claim that these are isolated cases, do we need another tragedy to happen before we act? he said.
Around 80 MARPO members had staged a demonstration outside the headquarters to protest against the new ruling.
MARPOs legal adviser N. Surendran, said the association is prepared to take legal action against MBSA if the council persists in implementing the new ruling.
He said MBSAs regulations reflect a lack of understanding of dogs and their usefulness in the community and peoples lives.
He said some of the laws discriminate against certain groups of people, citing the rule which permitted only the disabled to keep Rottweilers as an example.
If these dogs are truly ferocious as classified by the council, isnt it more dangerous for them to be around the disabled instead of the able-bodied? he asked.

MAIL HIGHLIGHTS: Water-ed down fuel Sushma Veera
Jan 13: KUALA LUMPUR: A lecturer from Setapak got more than fuel when she filled her car tank at a petrol station recently.
This had caused P. Shanty Maurices one-year-old Kia Optima to stall twice before stopping completely.
Shanty, 36, said she had gone to the Petronas petrol station in Sungai Way to pump RM60 worth of petrol.
After driving about 50 metres, the car stalled. I managed to start the engine and drove about two kilometres when the car stopped again, she told The Malay Mail on Jan 2.
Subsequently, her car was towed to the Kia service centre in Jalan Genting Kelang.
The following day, I received a call from the service centre, asking me to go over. They had taken a sample of the fuel from the car and showed me that the fuel injection system was filled with water, said Shanty.
Shanty lodged a complaint with Petronas, which sent one of its engineers to inspect the engine.
She said Petronas did not want to take responsibility for what happened and are putting the blame on a defect in the cars fuel system.
Further developments :
Petronas verbally agrees to pay for repairs
Jan 13: KUALA LUMPUR: Lecturer P. Shanty Maurice met Petronas officials on Jan 6 to discuss the complaint.
Shanty said: Basically, they have verbally agreed to pay the repair cost.
Although the company is willing to help Shanty with the repair, they stressed that investigations showed that their petrol is zero defect.
They (Petronas) asked me to pass the bill to them, once the service centre has repaired my car.
However, the service centre is now insisting that Petronas provides them with a written agreement.

Media Advised To Stay Away From Sensitive Issues
KUALA TERENGGANU, Jan 14 (Bernama) --Deputy Information Minister Datuk Zainudin Maidin has reminded the media not to publish sensitive reports which infringe upon the rights of a person such as contained in the constitution.
He said the media should know their responsibility in sieving reports which have racial overtones and those which touched on religion, to avoid racial disharmony.
He said while there were those which gave priority to freedom of the press, media practitioners should not report indiscriminately especially those related to matters stated in the constitution as all parties in the country had agreed not to question these rights.
He was commenting on the tendency among some media in publishing sensitive reports purely for profits without considering the sensitivities of the people.
Zainudin said the media in the country should not emulate the press freedom preached by the western media or the United States, but instead, they should practice press freedom, the Malaysian way ("a la Malaysia").

MAIL HIGHLIGHTS: Rela under fire! Najiah Najib & Fadhal Ilahi Abd Ghani
Kuala Lumpur, Jan 20: A man is missing after he jumped into a river for fear of being caught by Rela.
Ahmad Apik, 35, was last seen crying for help as he could not swim.
And MCA Public Services and Complaint Department head Datuk Michael Chong is blaming Rela for the incident.
Chong, who was in a restaurant which was also raided by the Voluntary Reserve Corps on Wednesday night, said the Rela officers were unprofessional.
Speaking at a Press conference yesterday, Chong said he was shocked when a man and two uniformed Rela officers barged into a restaurant where he was having supper with some friends about 11pm.
I thought it was a robbery. I didnt know he was a Rela officer as he was in plainclothes. He only told me so when I approached him to ask what the commotion was all about, he said.
Chong said when he asked the plainclothes officer to produce his identification documents, the man refused at first but only flashed it after Chong showed him his Justice of Peace identification.
Chong only knew it was a raid when he saw about 30 to 50 uniformed Rela officers with a senior Immigration Department officer waiting outside the restaurant.
Chong said the raiding party did not comprise police officers.
I fully support Rela officers going after illegal immigrants, but their attitude was deplorable. They were going around the area like military officers, said Chong.
The restaurant owner also suffered because many customers left without paying their bills.

Kong, and gamblers lose thier hair Dennis Wong
KUALA LUMPUR, Thurs Eleven people are up in arms after the police shaved their heads after they were caught gambling.
The 11, who meet up every year for supper, drinks and mahjong during Chinese New Year at a coffee shop in Balakong, continued the tradition this year betting with chips which they claimed was merely to pay for food and drinks.
They began their session at 11pm on Sunday and an hour later, they were raided by a police team and taken to the Kajang Police District Headquarters.
Chan Kim See, 69, one of those detained, said although they were told that they would be released after their statements were taken on Monday, they were handcuffed and put in the lock-up.
They had a bigger shock when several policemen came into the cell and shaved their heads. They were released only at 6pm the next evening.
"Is it lawful for them to shave our heads during detention? And is it wrong to gather for a game of mahjong during Chinese New Year?
"Why did the police have to ruin our celebrations?"

US President George Bush reveals: Malaysian in plot to crash jet into LA tower Tony Emmanuel and Devinder Singh
KUALA LUMPUR, Fri. Several years ago, a young Malaysian engineer was tapped by the al-Qaeda for a top-secret mission to crash a plane into the tallest skyscraper in Los Angeles.
His handlers in the militant group gave him RM750,000 and asked him to find a flying school for himself and two others in the region.
But the carnage caused by the Sept 11 attacks in 2001 in New York and Washington prompted Zaini Zakaria to have a change of mind. He was arrested in December 2002 by the Special Branch and is believed to have played a major role in the purchase of the ammonia nitrate used in the Bali bombing on Oct 12, 2002.
The 38-year-old is still being detained under the Internal Security Act at Kamunting detention centre.
His role in the planned assault on the 310-metre high US Bank Tower would have been unknown if not for a speech by US President George W. Bush yesterday.
Bush said that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, thought to be one of the masterminds of the 2001 attacks, planned to hijack a plane and fly the jet into the building, also known as the Library Tower.
Senior Malaysian police officials today confirmed that Zaini was among three men that were picked by al-Qaeda to take part in the attack. The others were identified as Zacarias Moussaoui and Abderraouf Jdey.
