Some are connecting from home THROUGH the router to a VPN server at work or somewhere else outside of the home network.  Others are trying to run a VPN server of different types BEHIND the router and have someone connect to it.<br><br>I have the Belkin version running on the Linksys firmware.  I can connect from home with a Cisco VPN client with no issues at all.  If I try running a VPN server on a Windows 2003 Server box, no one on the outside can connect.  It times out on the authentication.  If I try to conenct inside, it works fine.<br><br>My question is, has anyone got this router to work with a Windows 2003 Server VPN running behind it?]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : I thought I'd chime in to say, just tried getting a Netgear Prosafe VPN (software client connecting to a Prosafe) working with a WRT54GX2 router. It doesn't. Router was using original firmware, also tried 1.01.11 firmware and it didn't work either.<br><br>Disabling the "Firewall" would allow me to ping the remote hosts on 1.01.06 firmware (not on 1.01.11), but still could not get any TCP traffic to work right over the VPN.<br><br>Interestingly enough, the old Linksys Wireless B this client had previously, worked fine.<br><br>Two words, Linksys Sucks.]]></description>

WRT54gx version 2, 2.00.08 firmware.<br><br>I did not mess with port forwarding, the firewall, or the WAN PING on the router, nor did I disable tunneling on the Cisco client.<br><br>For reasons I don't understand (and which may be a false association), this only works after a fresh reboot. Once I connect and disconnect, I have to reboot before it works again. Otherwise the client tells me I have connected, but no IP addresses register.]]></description>

I unchecked "Enable Transparent Tunneling" and now I'm able to connect and get email.  Thanks for the tips about IPSec.  That was the clue I needed to try what I did.]]></description>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : I had this same problem with a wrt54gx v2 using the Cisco VPN client.  Wired, the VPN connection worked fine.  Wireless, the VPN would lock up either while authenticating or right after.<br><br>I was able to fix it by disabling transparent tunneling in the Cisco VPN client.  Transparent tunneling is designed for devices that don't support IPSec, which the wrt54gx does.<br><br>What didn't work: port forwarding, port triggering, setting up a DMZ, turning off Windows firewall, turning of the Linksys firewall, disabling Norton antivirus.]]></description>

Enabling auto-detect in firefox made everything work.]]></description>

I ultimately returned the SRX router, tried the Belkin which would not work either, and then bought the WRT54G v3.0 which works fine.  Not supposed to be as fast as the MIMO stuff, but it is about twice as fast as my BEFSW11S4 v4 wireless.  In my very basic tests which were standard G and B, the MIMO routers were possibly a bit slower than the WRT54G.]]></description>

Since I've changed the default transport setting in the VPN client (ver. 4.7xxxx) from IPSEC over UDP (default) to IPSEC over TCP it works fine. The WRT54GX seems to block a lot of UDP traffic including IPSEC over UDP.<br>Weird stuff cuz their other routers don't do this. I will create a call at Linksys why this is happening and why it is impossible to change this behavior from the Webinterface.<br><br>I hope my tip works for you guys too.]]></description>

Worked with support for about 2 hours, and the Linksys tech told me to take it back to the store, which is what I'll do.  Too bad, the extra range was nice.  Tried it with both my internal centrino adapter, plus the Linksys SRX pcmcia card, just to be sure.  ]]></description>

We purchased 14 of them for use in our offices across the country and although we really needed the extended range capability, we ultimately returned all 14 routers.  The only reason - our employees couldn't get VPN access to our headquarters WITH ANY OF THEM.  We later found out from some other companies that they had similar experiences.<br><br>Our IT folks spent more than 7 1/2 hours with Linksys tech support and also swapped out routers with new ones Linksys sent us.  Nada - we never got any the routers able to VPN to our server and became convinced that they are flawed when it comes to remote VPN access.  Since then we've switched to one of Linksys's MIMO competitors and haven't had any problems with VPN access.]]></description>

It is as if though the router is blocking something else.  GRE?  I don;t even know how you would define GRE in this thing.<br><br>But I have used this router version in 3 different locations and it blocked PPTP in all 3 with 3 different routers. If he connects his laptop wired to the router he gets the same problem, times out. But if he connects wireless it works fine.  And no ports are forwarded. It worked fine with my old BEFSW11S4 version 4 router, but when I got this new WRT54GX, it times out on the "verifying username and password". I have forwarded port 1723 etc., spent several hours on level 2 tech support, and no success. I have the latest firmware in the new router as well.<br><br>Sorry about the repost - my subject line was incorrect before as it referenced the wrong router.  This is the new Mimo router.<br><br>Have you also noticed that the "logs" don't show much.  Simply timestamps and a message - no port info.]]></description>
