Good question. Maybe now that iTunes has tested the waters and proven there is a market for paid downloads (in spite of the label's greed on royalties and licensing) they are offering better rates for Yahoo. Or maybe Yahoo is operating at a loss and making it up on something related like ads or value added service.

Or maybe it is because the $4.99 a month does not include the rights to burn to a CD and the music expires when your subscription does.

Doesn't iTunes do something similar with their monthly subscription? Not having used the service I just assumed that's what was going on.

There is no monthly subscription for iTunes.
