The music industry really needs to sit down at the table and work out something with the p2p companies to offer their content in non DRM restricted format on the networks. Shawn Fanning has got kind of the right idea with Snocap and Mashboxx, and at least one of the majors, Sony/BMG (and perhaps EMI as well) has signed onto the new p2p network. But it is too little, too late. The current offerings are dwarfed by a factor of more than 1000 by the content traded on the non industry approved p2p networks. And despite the lawsuits and other actions taken by the content cartels, their usage keeps increasing.
