"end user installed equipment" - on a gas line? Yeah right. sounds like pie in the sky to me. Even "blimpband" is more plausible than this.

Actually, that phrase tells us a bit.

Since gas companies NEVER want amateurs making gas connections, the connection at the user end must just be some sort of alligator clip type thing--i.e., no cable or fiber blown through the line. So apparently the pipe's the thing.

If you thought that it takes too much power to drive an RF IP signal over power lines, wait till you see how much power it takes to drive an RF IP signal through a pipe which is GROUNDED for it's entire length.
