Re: Washington State Speed problems I have had the problems for a month. Getting around 3Mbps-4.2Mbps max(I pay for 6Mbps), doesn't matter what time of the day. Uploads is always around 700-730Kbps. I called Comcast and did diagnostic crap...Couldn't find anything wrong on my end...Then they had to contact another department and said something about problems with one of their routers and it should be fixed by the end of the month.
I also got a discount this month for the price of the 4.0 since my 6.0 is obviously not anywhere near the speed it should be. |

 | i had the same prob with the 6meg setup ide allways get 768k up but never got half of the 6 megs so i went to the 4mb and i get 2mb are less but 90% of the time its less then 1MB and techs dont know whats up but now there thinking its the node i havert herd back from them yet |

 | reply to cable prob I too just got qwest DSL and although it is only 1.33Mbps down\745 kbps up, I can play America's Army lag free and it is stable. I also have Vonage VOIP and I can chat and play game at the same time without loosing voice quality. Going to pull the plug on comcast this week. I've had it with comcast! Everytime I call them the on phone\online tech keep wanting to send out a tech. After 3 techs saying nothing is wrong, they close the ticket and said there isn't anything they can do. |

 | Back when I was AT&T at 1.5/128 I had a better connection with XBox Live. I have 4 times the speed I did then but it's all a waste to me now. I pay over $800 a year for me and my family to game online with Game tag prices and pro connection with Comcast, not to mention the cost I have put into my network for the best I can come up with. Just waitting and looking for something better at this point.I have never had DSL but if it comes out here I am for sure going to give it a shot myself and if I like it? Will never look back, I could care less about the price at this point. After pissing away $800 a year Someone needs to hit me over the head. My wife is about to for sure. I pay over $100 a month for Cable TV and internet alone. Thats a retierment plan for some. whoa |

 | reply to cable prob after I complained about my speed issue and asked about credit this what he replied with "Mark > Well you have been able to access the internet correct?" lol |

This total bull crap. |

 | Dang it, more of the same AGAIN.
Bob, seeing the same spikes at the same router as you... |

 | I was just online 2 times with a tech. I went through all he asked me ( we know what the drill)and was real nice. Still no change from the first person. Got online again and was asked if I could get online as well. I explained I could ok but ping times to Yahoo and every were else were high and downloads were half what they should be. Talked a little about gaming being he is one as well and knew what I was talking about. He said a little about peak time and informed him I see this every evening and have for the past few months but not before that. He said they are aware of the issue and are in place of changing some stuff out after the increase to the 6.0 upgrade. This is the first time I have had someone say that so it does give a little help to some insite as to them actually doing something at this time. |

Shit kills me that they roll out all these new speed tiers but aren't really ready to support it... |
|
 | reply to cable prob Yeah it's REAL scary that they can't support 6 MB ... in today's terms that's NOT very much bandwidth. To see it KILL their network like this is ridiculous. Makes you wonder how they will ever do 8, 10, 15, etc.
Franky, and I know this stings, I'd wish they'd go back to the old speeds. I'd take less bandwidth for a stable connection any day. |
|
 | reply to cable prob Actually, something in the last 24-48 hours changed and I'm not sure what -- it hasn't helped this issue, though.
I've noticed my first hop pings (I've got pingplotter running 24x7 to several sites) have decreased by a couple ms; for the first time, when running a speed test, I'm actually getting the full 6/768. That would never happen before; I'd always get 4.5ish down, max. So that's a good sign...
...but unfortunately, as we've said to tech support and they're too dumb to listen, the problem is on their end somewhere with these peak latency issues. Virtually all of our traceroutes reflect the exact same issue.
So I've been running Verizon along with Comcast for the past week for comparison. Comcast beats it during off-peak times ... but the funny thing is that my pingplots using Verizon are ROCK STEADY. I'm talking over multiple days, the latency is straight as an arrow. My comcast latency chart looks like an EKG. |

 | Lonewolf, can you post a sample of ping times for us with your ping plotter with verison? I would die to have a connection like that. I wouldn't care what it would cost me at this point. Right now everything is showing real good but I know come tonight will fall right back down again. I wonder if anyone has noticed if it happens at an exact time? You know if you are running ping plotter and see it start to jump all of the sudden or if it slowly gets worse. |
|
 | reply to cable prob I just got off the phone with Verison and Qwest. Our phone is Qwest so Verison couldn't be an option, and Qwest doesn't have anything out here yet so I'm stuck but from what they both have I would change in a heart beat. I would like to know just how many of you people have the option to change but haven't? If you could please list your name and why you haven't changed. |
|
 | They told me that they will have it fixed around the end of the month. |

Look at this comared to my pingplot of last night shown a few steps above in this thread. The one last night was taken around 10:30 PM and this is around 1:30 PM |
|
 | i dont even see them kinda ping times on a good day LOL lucky guy gameing has lost all fun now |
|
 | reply to Bob98102 Bob, That IP has popped up for me a few times and always shows the lowest ping times. I saved in my seach box and every time I ping it I see those kind of results when thinga are running good. I have even set my router to use those #'s as my Primary DNS # |

 | you lost me Bob |

 | You think you guys have issues with comcast? Check this tracert to google.com at around 9:20ish p.m today. Noticed comcast was screwing up on me while playing World of Warcraft and noticed my ping slowly rise from 100 ms to 1153. I'm located in Northern California and this has been going on the past 4 days or so around these similar times. The only time I seem to regain some sort of stability is after 2 a.m. I've spoken to comcast on the phone and online, of course they give me the same bs lines and asking to send a tech to test the line.
Ofcourse, I tell them, "when the tech comes during the early afternoon, the line seems excellent but at night during peak hours, the latency goes to hell." His reply was something along the lines of, "Would you like a tech to come? Will there be someone over 18 and who speaks English?". The guy totally blows my question. I asked them to admit that this latency issue is on their end but of course, no reply. It's a script they follow and I even pointed it out to him. The odd thing, after he rudely closed the session w/me online, my modem was reset. Speeds went back somewhat normal and the tracert's improved. I hope this is resolved real soon.
