GreatNews RSS reader

I've just found this RSS reader.
The nice thing is that it supports Bloglines.com feeds too.

Looks sweet, thanks

Love the website. I currently use Opera for feeds, for a very simple reason: that way, I don't have to run a separate program to read feeds. But of course, Opera is beat by just about any dedicated newsreader app out there, simply because it lacks any advanced features for newsreading. I'll check this out. I've tried FeedDemon before and didn't like it too much :/

I've always thought of RSS as a pain to use, unless it's integrated in a browser or mail app, but then it's just not true RSS. I just uninstalled FeedDemon today. It could easily eat away an hour of my time because I'd get stuck reading all that great stuff from like 10,000 different sites and blogs.

That's nice for those of us who use Outlook and tolerate IE. I'm not a member of either of those groups.

It's decent, but I'm just about giving up on RSS readers as a whole. It's just another app I have to open to check something... and every single time I end up adding far too many things to it so that I could spend hours upon hours reading... and I'm not the type to lose patience very quickly, so I really am hooked for at least an hour once I open a newsreader and start reading all kinds of articles :/

I'll leave it on my system for now, but I'm trying to get Website Watcher Pro for a good price. That would save me a ton of time on the web, seriously. Until I find a good deal, I'll remain without it. $50 is a bit hefty...

I'm currently using it... but I just stumbled over something weird. I'm trying to add the following feed to GreatNews, »winplanet.com/wp_n_xml.asp, and it just won't work. Opera's built-in feedreader picks it up just fine!

It's the feed from the site »www.winplanet.com. It just won't work.. says something like type of feed not recognized in Greatnews.

I've been using GreatNews for a couple days now and it's a tremendous start at what I think will be a leader in RSS readers. The support has been phenomenal with the developer responding quickly and fixing/enhancing the app just as quickly.

As for the feed - »www.winplanet.com/wp_u_xml.asp - I can't add it either. It says it's an "Unknown Channel Format". I'm gonna take a wild guess and say that the issue is because it has:
- <rss version="2.00">
while other feeds that it adds fine are:
- <rss version="2.0">

I'll post this in the support forum and I'm sure it will get resolved in the next build, assuming that's the issue.

Edit: updated the post to actually show the issue which was dropped because of < > characters.

The developer for GreatNews has already responded to the post on his forums...

Thanks this is indeed a bug. GreatNews checks rss version by comparing strings instead of converting to number. I will release build 310 tonight to fix this. Now hope nobody uses "2.000".....
