guys, here's the reason: if under "file sets" you have the default "spyware only" checked, you'll see 24011. if you check "all checks", you'll see a lot more (26610 in mine). simple!
That's cool then, I have my browser erase all tracks on Exit and use CrapCleaner for anything else!

Thanks gracie!

while installing new detections in 1.4, a Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1 alert popped up asking if i wanted to add 139mm.com to my ie trusted site. since i had just said yes to Spybot as a BHO (another MAS alert), i said yes to 139mm.com, but it bothered me.

here is the event log from MAS....

"Internet Explorer Trusted Sites alert

Occured on: 6/1/2005 at 7:23:00 PM

The user Administrator, has decided to allow the trusted site 139mm.com to Internet Explorer."

i see that this is not a good site, and so i checked ie trusted sites and it is not there, in fact it is in the restricted sites list

so i know that this is part of what Spybot 1.4 is blocking, but i wonder why MASBeta1 gave me that alert, AND, when i inadvertantly said yes, it still did not put it in the trusted site.

any feedback from others welcome

thanks

I have MSAS installed but never received that alert?

I did receive the BHO alert...but not the 139mm.com.

It is possible that the entry was previously installed into the restricted zone on my rig when I installed Spyware Blaster 3.4 a while ago before MSAS.

If you are using 1.3's hostfile, would the uninstall remove it?

Lol, everyone is getting something different. Microsoft needs to fix this in MSAS. See screenshot. This is what I got. I checked in Trusted Zone, it wasn't there. It was, however, in Restricted Zone as it should be. Just curious, how many items show up when you Immunize? Mine shows 6,547 bad products are now blocked. Is this more than version 1.3? BTW, check SpywareBlaster to make sure everything is enabled there. I've had a problem when I download IE-Spyad or upgrade to a new version of Spybot that certain things become disabled or undone in SpywareBlaster.

By "everything checked" do you mean INCLUDING usage tracking? I have everything checked except usage tracking and I have the same number definitions for 3.1Tx and 4.0 -24011.

As noted elsewhere, you have to close Spybot after updating the definitions, then open it again and run it. It takes about 5 minutes to scan everything on my machine.

I didn't have to close Spybot, after updating the definitions, in order to conduct a proper scan. But then I didn't do a separate upgrade of the definitions. 1.4 comes with the latest definitions..the very same ones that I installed an hour before on 1.3Tx. It took 2 minutes, 40 seconds to do a scan same as it did an hour earlier with 3.1Tx.

I upgraded mostly to see if 4.0 would find Backweb like 1.3 did for the first time. 4.0 also finds Backweb. A bunch of Registry entries. I don't know why it thinks Backweb is spyware in the sense we usually think of spyware. I don't have the nasty Backweb. So I'm puzzled about this. Why would it suddenly find Backweb in Netscape 7.2, which I have had for ages, and it never found that before? I think it is a FP. I also upgraded Adaware tonight and it didn't find any Backweb.

People still use S&D? I dropped it and adaware a couple months ago when MS came out with it's spy software. I had been using S&D every other day. I put MS software on and WOW! It found all kinds of junk. I left it and got rid of all the others. So, in ones non-bias'd against microsofts products, is the new version of S&D better then MS's antispyware?

I am by no means biased against Microsoft, but this company is biased against me: I cannot use its anti-spyware tool because I'm a WinME user.:p;)

I tried MS's antispyware and it did me a lovely favor. When I uninstalled it, it killed my modem. The computer is under warranty so Dell had to send a tech to replace it. They said they had a number of users with serious hardware problems after they tried to uninstall MSAS.

I didn't like MSAS. Far too aggressive. Counterspy is the same. I have a year of it for free but I don't use it. I don't like any anti-spyware application that runs in the systray. I don't need that level of protection because I am not a newbie. I use my head and practice safe hex and I never get spyware. Spybot suits me great as I can run it on demand which is what I want in an anti-spyware application.

I've encountered a problem with 1.4 final on a WinMe PC.

I can't fully Immunize. When I try I always get:
1992 bad products already blocked, 3 additional products possible. Please Immunize.

I click Immunize and get 1995 bad products blocked with a green checkmark. After closing and re-opening the program, then clicking Immunize, the symptom repeats with:

1992 bad products already blocked, 3 additional products possible. Please Immunize.

I've already posted over at Net-Integration. »forums.net-integration.n ··· ic=31119

Just a quick heads up that in Settings - Ignore products - All products, the following three entries are checked by default and may well be best unchecked.

Maybe they should have checked "Nirsoft" instead because I don't think this is malware (see my previous post on page 1 of this thread).

Spybot 1.4 takes about 30 seconds to scan IE Favorites and another 30 seconds to scan Firefox favs. Is there a way to exclude the scanning of favorites as I do not use IE any longer?
