DSL is a flawed technology...

The problem is they can't deliver the faster speeds (like Comcast) so they have to chop the price. I'm 2.2 miles from SBC's central office and can't even get DSL. Hell, I cant even get 56k dialup.

Comcast is kicking SBC's butt!

Yeah, that's true but I think Comcast will be forced to cut their prices eventually. I say this as a satisfied customer of Comcast. They can't keep charging $46 per month and expect people not to go with a lower price from SBC. I know one person who switched already.

I have considered it but since I get POTS from Talk America instead of SBC I would see my phone bill rise by being forced back to SBC in order to get DSL on the line, thus offsetting the savings from leaving Comcast.

Not really - SBC added more DSL lines in the first quarter than Comcast. In the past - cable was king. But for now, DSL is coming on strong.

You sound like Brian Roberts. The cable companies and RBOCs (at least SBC and Verizon) went different directions in 2003 - higher advertised bandwidth for cable, lower advertised pricing with DSL. Based on the subscriber additions since 2003, both approaches have been moderately successful (with most of the gains for both delivery types coming from converts from dial-up).

That's because Comcast doesn't sell DSL lines.

Comcast cable is still king because SBC's *DSLnnn is still just a worthless press release around here.

Thank you! I'll take that as one heck of a compliment. Brian Roberts is my hero. He's jockeyed the Comcast horse from 0 to 60 in 2.3 seconds. The telco DSL horse stumbled and fell out of the gate.

When they start placing Wi-Fi connections in our neighborhoods, they will have to drop to keep customers. WI-FI will be coming in around $14.95/mo. We won't need hard connections so we really won't need their lines and hardware anymore.
