Everyone on these forums seems to be obsessed with more speed when much of the country can't even get broadband. I have Verizon phone service here in N.Cal. Recently I asked one of the few Verizon employees still working here in this county about the possibility of Verizon providing dsl. He laughed and said that Verizon will probably never install dsl at our CO. I checked on Verizon dial-up service a couple of years ago-they didn't even have a local access number and they provide phone service for the entire county! Fortunately, I live in the largest town in the county (pop 3500!). Last October the local cable operator rolled out its broadband offering-a whopping 512kbs down, 128kbs up. Am I whining about my speeds? Hell no! I just spent 8 years with a 42kbs max dial-up connection!:D |
