anon : Here's my latest: I'm scrapping the MN-740 and hard wiring the XBOX to my network. I bought the cable yesterday and it should be here by tomorrow. I found a dude on eBay that sells them dirt cheap (200' for $18!)

Last night, I booted the XBOX and then plugged the router in and there was no change. I ran a 25' cat 5 cable from the XBOX to as close to the router as I could and there was still no change. I then flashed the router back to the Linksys release to rule out a firmware problem on that end and I had the same problem still...

I've come to the conclusion that the MN-740 is junk.

Needs: To properly set up the adapter, you need to do the following steps:
1.) Disable all security on your router
2.) Do a hard reset of the adapter by pressing the reset button for 10 seconds.
3.) Boot into the XBOX and go to the network settings screen and click on connect.
4.) Let the XBOX find the wireless network
5.)Make sure the settings for the wireless network are the same as your router and hit apply (if you don't have an option to apply, change something and then change it back right away and then it apply)
6.) Let it connect.
7.) If it doesn't connect, go back and set static ip's on the XBOX, set up dhcp filtering and try again
8.) Keep trying, over and over - move the adapter around, move the router to the other side of the room

Keep in mind that mine connects and it says Excellent recetion at 54Mb/s but the download speeds are just terrible.

I was just reading on a forum that the problem may be related to ZoneAlarm on my PC.. I'll try that this weekend and see

Orbiting234 : Glad I'm not the only one who has been thinking this!!!

Ever since the D-Link DGL-3420 came out I have been wondering this. But I'm not sure if it would work or how to attempt. Trying to find out if the DGL-3420 uses the same SoC or not. The PCB layouts are *nearly* identical. Obviously the MN-740 has the AR2112 radio (b/g) while the DGL-3420 has a AR5112 radio (a/b/g) but I can't find a clear pic of the main SoC of the DGL-3420 anywhere. If I could and found it to be the same, I'd be trying to hack this thing in a heartbeat as WPA and web config would make this MN-740 infinitely more useful!
