Re: westell versalink 327w disconnect issues. Ok, I too have a Westell 327W B90 Rev E.
I am having problems connecting to online games such as Age of Empires 2. I have contacted Westell, Verizon, and even Microsoft... and have yet gotten any help.
I have tried Port Forwarding, Static NATs, Static IPs and nothing works. The closest I could get was hosting a game, and the other person actually saw it, but could not join. When someone else hosts a game, I cannot see theirs at all.
Any info? |

 | reply to townsell >I have the disconnect issue when using Azureus. >................................................. >So from reading this thread I take it there's no getting around this issue?
I had this problem on A model and just resolved it last night. It is def issue with TTL packet flooding firewall and simulating DoS attack.
Here is what you need to do: -------------------------------------------------- 1) install updated firmware from Verizon »netservices.verizon.net/portal/s···aLinkFix
2) if you are running firewall add rules to pass ping traffic:
pass icmp-type reply >> done # inbound rules pass icmp-type request >> done # outbound rules
Make sure that you save updated firewall settings otherwise they will be lost at reboot.
3) install Azureus autospeed plug in
4) configure plug in: - set low/max to 32/88 - set ping site /www.google.com/ - set delay to 100ms - set down traffic as x3 of up
5) make sure that you don't use alternate speed when seeding in Transfers 6) enable autospeed plug in 7) change ISP connection to auto-reconnect under connection profile --------------------------------------------------
these settings will minimize packet loss and reduce TTL traffic. As a result modem should stay up, and if it does go down /autospeed plug in stopped on me once/ it will reconnect on reboot.
As a bonus unplugging bottleneck significantly increases download speeds, it sped up some of my torrents ~3 times.
Note: the downspeed settings (32/88 and x3) are for 3360/864 DSL connection; make adjustements if you have slower link |
|
 | I'd call it a success; it had been up for 33hr w/o dropping connection or rebooting. |
|
|
|
 | still running 3 days w/o reboot, 1 reconnect.
also to minimize packet fragmentation set MTU to 1452. |
|
 | reply to jsusfreak This isn't just a wireless problem. Actually for me it has nothing to do with wireless. I don't have any non-wired connections but this modem drops my connection anywhere from every few hours to ~3 times in a minutes. They refuse to give me a refund or any sort of replacement. I intend on smashing it to pieces and then maybe mailing it to them. |

 | reply to inpain Hey there, I'm having some issues with my connection as well. I pretty sure the problem is on their side somewhere, but I want to see if anyone here has a better idea as to what it is.
Here's the deal: My connection is alright most of the time. I'll get a disconnect maybe once a day, and usually once or twice during the night. Not exactly good, but tolerable. However, the real problem comes up when the weather here starts to deteriorate. Rain and lightning are the main culprits (I'm in the middle of a thunderstorm right now, so hopefully this will get through before it dies again). During bad weather, disconnects happen every 3 to 5 minutes. When that happens, I have to manually reconnect. When the connection goes down, the DSL reports being down first, then the PPP session half a minute or so later goes down.
I've been watching the statistics, and the Downstream Path numbers seem to keep fluctuating quite a bit whenever there's a storm (not so much when the weather is fine), while the Upstream numbers remain constant regardless. Here are some examples of the statistics and the Diagnostic Log from the router (just to note: Downstream Attenuation has hit 45db in the past, but hasn't recently, and JASON-1138 is my computer on the log; neither of the other two computers on the network seem to appear on it):

end of diagnostic log file If anyone can tell me what the problem may be, and how to get it fixed, it would be greatly appreciated. (And if it involves going to Tech Support or something concerning something on their end, how to avoid the idiot questions like "Did you restart your router/computer?" is also welcome.) Thanks in advance. |

| If it only happens in lightning storms, you might not be able to do much about it. The lightening can add noise to the phone line.
I usually make it through those storms. But my line is underground all the way back to the CO. An aerial line can pick up static discharges. |
|
 | reply to inpain It's not just during lightning storms. It can happen anytime there's a change to "worse" weather. Rain does it. Snow probably would too, but who knows, it wasn't like this last winter, or anytime before then. Also, like I said, it still happens without anything like that, just not nearly as often.
That said, it could still just be added noise. I just have a hunch that isn't the whole story. Defective wires maybe? That might explain why this problem was never happening before. But I don't know much about this sort of thing... you people are better at it than me. |

 | reply to inpain I am so glad I found this thread on this forum, I was pulling my hair out with the SAME issue! Verizon sent me a total of 3 modems (the original + 2 others) and they all had the same issue. I've kept the 3rd one, and sent the other two back, Unfortunately I dont know those modems' modem numbers.
The one I have now appears to be different from what most people on this thread are posting about. Its the Westell Versalink 327W, but its modem D90-327W15-06, revision C. Made in the USA in 04/06. Software version 4.00.00.02.
What happens is the same as everyone elses, it sounds. I've watched it very closely. With no rhyme or reason, the Internet light on the modem will stop blinking. About 30 seconds to a minute later, the power light will go red, the ethernet lights will go steady green, and the modem will reset itself. My roomate's computer as well as mine says media has been disconnect on the network card. The modem turns itself back on, the DSL light comes on steady, and then the internet light starts blinking again... and all is well.
EXTREMELY frustrating, and whats worse is dealing with the verizon online phone support people who know MUCH less than *we* know, right? Annoying. My dad has Verizon DSL also, but he didnt get the modem with the built-in wireless, as he already had a wireless router. He doesnt have any of these issues... I wish I had gone with the wired modem only!
I wonder if I could use his really old Verizon modem that he used when he had 768/128 service, before upgrading to the new modem and the 3mbit package? I might give it a try... and purchase a cheap wireless router, so I can have wireless with my laptop anywhere in the apartment.

 | reply to inpain My problem has to do with the wireless connection to my PDA and/or laptop PC disconnecting. It is not a matter of my desktop disconnecting from the internet.
Anybody experiencing the disconnect with the wireless connection. It happens to me once or twice daily.
The cure: switching the router off and turning it back on - but this is a pain.
Any advice? Is this problem different from the other disconnect issues being talked about? |

 | reply to inpain hi! verizon sucks ****. i have a westell versalink 327w and the internet light sometimes blinks which has been driving me nuts,i mostly play games and i get a loss of 50 which is unbearable. when the light starts to blink i cant even go to another web page! and they dont want to give me a new modem cuz the goddamn 1 year warranty expired and they want me to pay $50 for something that might still not work. so i tell them about the Motorola SURFboard SB5120 modem, and i ask them if it is compatable with the service, he (customer rep) has the nerve to tell me he cant tell me WTF!he is only TRAINED to tell me about the modems that they provide (training aka reading me answers from a wetell manual, i asked him if he could look it up he told me NO...can any1 kindly tell me if the Motorola SURFboard SB5120 modem works with verizon? or another soulution? i relle appreciate it. |

 | reply to inpain My PDA and laptop won't always connect when turned on while Router is on. It seems the solution is to turn the Router off and on again. But this gets to be a pain.
Anything else I should do to correct problem. What do I need to do so that PDA and laptop connect everytime? |

 | My problem is the same as the very first post in this thread. First off...Model#A90-327W15-06, REV. E, Made in China. I have it setting on it's end (in the little stand) about 3" from a 17" monitor. So heat should not be an issue.
The problem is the ethernet (wired) is dropping out. I have seen it 3 or 4 times an hour while running Azureus and while gaming Battlefield 2 online. The computer report "Cable unplugged". Now I read all the posts and I'm wondering if the EMF from the monitor could be causing problems. It should be shielded against that, but I guess I could move it to test. How far away I wonder?
Should I see if I can get a different modem? Are they shipping different ones yet? It's really frustrating when this happens in the middle of a game.
Thanks for any help provided. |

 | reply to inpain After reading through this thread, along with this one »How to use my Linksys wireless router with my 327w'
I am surprised to see that no one has really emphasized on the direct correlation of these two.
Like many of you I have been having many Versalink 327w reboot/disconnect issues, especially while using Azureus (BitTorrent). Wondering is it the heat, is it the modem, or is it the router. Well I can definately say.. with having a seperate router do all the Routing, NAT, Authentication etc. THE REBOOTS HAVE STOPPED!. It would seem to me that it's not so much a heat or modem issue, as it is the routing portion. The Versalink just can't handle it.
So with that said I am disconnect free, yay! Now I just need to work on getting the NAT in Azureus to say it's ok again. I don't want to have to decide between Disconnects, and being NOT CONNECTABLE on the trackers.
Thoughts?

 | reply to inpain i for a brief time thought i was the only on with this very same issue with the exception of the notification i have watch all of the lights go out on my modern and restart and when i have eventually gone thru all of the blind dumb monkeys hoops and get to advanced tech support they send a tech out he checks the line fines that there is a discrepancy in signal quality from t the house to the box out side the house to the street i have had the speeds all over the place from no signal to extremely high a slow speed can be caused by spy ware or some program running in the back ground sometimes i have even been told that i did not have enough recourse's i would suggest that all of us who are one verizon costumers and westell owners of this modern start to flood them with emails demanding a resolution to this issue i have`emailed westell tech support and have yet to hear back from them |
|
 | reply to inpain I have been totally frustrated with Verizon and their tech support. I have a newer Westell Versalink 327W, D90-327W15-06, revision C also (it's replacement #1). I don't know what my original modem's revision number was. It drops out constantly and Verizon tech support hasn't got a clue. Not even an "iota" of a clue! Anyway, I've found that if I run a window in IE at »192.168.1.1/ it forces the modem online and it never drops out. I know this is a piss-poor way of resolving a problem, but it does seem to work. I will tell Verizon to stick their DSL where the sun doesn't shine as soon as my contract is up, and go back to cable modem. |
|
 | reply to HughB I have a friend that has the same problem as HughB. His laptop in security mode (WEP) disconnects after about three logins. He then has to reboot the westell to connect. It's a dell inspiron. |

I don't know anything about it as I have the B90. |

 | reply to rickined you can always check »westell.com/pages/index.jsp for updates (firmware) on your modem. this website is not supported by verizon, you can do this on your own. |
