not much will change

It's illegal to distribute copyright files. They went to court to re-re-re verify. Making copies for personal use is ok, as long as you don't distribute. The internet is a means for files to be distribute files, period. They are going after applications that allow you to distribute.

The overall outcome will be the same. It's still illegal to share copyrighted works, duh, people will still distribute because the internet connects everyone on a world wide network. It's a losing battle to attack application after application. Waste of money. These days it's easier to make and record your own music.

Some CD rippers allow you to rip music as original works. The software is already out there, if your smart you will archive all the software that lets you rip music, keep those old computers around. Low-tech hacks will never be defeated by the RIAA, (just hold down the shift key). As the saying goes, if it can be seen or heard it can be recorded and distributed.

Storage technology is changing, the next new media format will bring another onslaught of lawsuits. Round and round we go.
