[request] Return to "favs" after posting button?

Kind of like how there is a "Fast Post" button now? Can we have another button that would dump us back out into our favs as opposed to the parent forum?

I suggest calling it the "Faster Post" or "dslknowitall is great, wow what an idea" button...:D

Re: Return to "favs" after posting button?

Excellent idea.

The page that one enters their post text on always gets in the history of the browser and makes it a pain in the ass to back-page to the Favorites. A direct jump would be perfect.

As it is, to get around this mucking-up-the-browser-history thing that the posting page does (all BB software does it, not a BBR problem), I just set a bookmark to the Faves and click that over and over rather than trying to back-navigate through the post page.

Just click on "your posts and replies" upper left on all pages here. No need to go back through various pages or for this proposed button. I must click on "your posts and replies" a zillion times every day here. It is how I navigate the site.

That does not take you to Faves.

I want to see all new threads in my Faves, not just "my posts and replies".

I'm not against what you've suggested, but why not just click on "My favorite forums" with the sidebar navigation button? Would seem to be nearly as simple. I do it all the time.

Or am I missing something in your suggestion?

Yeah you are. It's one click (from the posting screen, a la "fast post") vs. two (Post, then favs).

Clicks is money.

Actually, I'd like the ability to crawl through the unread posts on my favorites list like you can with individual forums, with them all in one list. Kind of like the "forum family" ALL link is supposed to work, but doesn't.

The icon for Favorites is an envelope. On BBR, an envelope means Instant Message. I think. Whatever it means, I can't ever remember it. The only icon that makes any sense to me is the one with the little people on it.

So I have a bookmark on my bookmarks bar that says "DSLR". The link is www.broadbandreports.com/forums/fav0. If I just read a thread, and didn't reply, I can just back-click (RMB in Safari on my setup) to get back to Faves.

But if I have posted, then back-click goes to the post entry screen, which isn't what I want. In those cases I hit the "DSLR" button because I can never remember which icon means "Forums". So automatically going to Faves after clicking "post" would be perfect.

Once you are used to tabbed browsing, this becomes a non-issue. To read and article, you open a new tab. After reading, or replying, close the tab and you are back at the favorites page.

Maybe I should request a new feature, where after posting a reply, the current tab is closed (just kidding on that one).

You are entirely correct that those icons on the upper left of the page are totally nonsensical. What is the people one for? I don't know what that one is for. In fact, I can't remember what any of them are for except the one for Followed. I had to memorize which one gets me to Followed which is how I navigate the site. Seems to me if Justin would fix those icons then this request would be unnecessary.

Jeez the icons at the top have descriptions if you mouseover them. Do they need to draw a map?

Anyway, as far as the original suggestion *sign*

I have clicked on the Followed icon a zillion times and never seen the description. Just now I sat there and waited and EVENTUALLY I saw the description. But if you didn't know to wait, and wait, because there was a description if you waited long enough, you would probably just either click on one to see what it did or give up before the description shows. If you chose to just click on one to see what it did, you might never know there was a description if you waited long enough. So, when you wanted to click on the favorites one the next time and couldn't remember which icon was for that, you wouldn't know to hover long enough to see the description.

The mouseovers pop up in less than a second for me. Granted, the icons probably could be more explicit, but they do work with only one click of the mouse.

If you have Fortunes or Overheard enabled, there should now be a link on the post-posting screen that will take you back to the Favorite Forums page.

* Object * to management not listening to the intent of the request. This is totally not what was asked for.

It STILL screws with the browser history, and does not accomplish squat. You can do the exact same thing by hitting the favorite forum icon at the upper left of the page.

So don't go patting yourself on the back just yet. The need is for a button on the posting screen itself.
